Hi, My AMD64 3200+ winchester is an OCing dud. I get 300mhz increase stable and thats it. I'm not writing this post to bitch about it tho...I'd like to get a venice core, since I haven't seen any winchester selection around anymore.

1. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if AMD is introducing any new cpu's that might make the venice cores a little cheaper than they are right now.

2. I read a post on this forum that said somthing like...AMD puts the memory controllers that test better into the 3500+ chips. Is there any truth to this??

Since I've spent alot of money already on my mobo, psu, cpu memory looking for a descent OC and wound up with a dud this time I'd like to minimize my chances of getting a venice dud by staying away from 3200+ and going with a 3500+ but unfortuantely I have to wait a little while to get the money. Can anyone shed some light on either of my 2 questions?

Thanx-

Say....that is cheap! But I was thinking....I know lots of peeps are getting good OC's with the 3000+'s but even if I get a decent one that does a 500mhz oc, thats 2300mhz and thats where I am now. I don't know if I wanna risk that even if it is cheap...its still money I could spend towards a faster stock chip. But at that price its definatly worth consideration.

thanks-

No problem. Happy to help out a fellow [H]forum goer.

I can understand your conflict in this situation. Even though it is cheap, it is still money you can put towards a higher stock chip.

My advice: Keep your existing chip until you feel like making a move to an X2 or the upcoming socket M2. The money you save now on another single core will be put to better use in one of those in the future, imo. ;)

you've got a point. maybe i should wait and try for an x2 but I just played the f.e.a.r. single player demo and that makes waiting really difficult...heh. I'm going to think on it. 126$ is do-able and all i really need is 300-400 more mhz then i have now to keep me happy for a while.I wish there was a way to secure a good ocing 3000+...... decisions........decisions........

thanx for the input...much abliged!

You can probably get more than just 500mhz off of that CPU. I got 800mhz and wasn't even trying hard.
