current specs:

Q6600 quad Gigabyte GA-P35-D3SL, 4 ea 1GIG DD2 1066, 3 ea WD200, 320,320 HD,
Samsung SATA dvd burner, Nvidia 8800 GT, Win XP Pro/Vista /XP64 triple boot

so far noproblems with my Eartwatts 430. However yesterday I bought a HD4850
to upgrade the system. Will my current PSU handle the AMD/Ati card?
 
3 each of 3 hard drives? So 9 hard drives, or was that a mistake on your part?

It may or may not work with 3 hard drives. You can try it if you want. I don't think it would work with 9 hard drives though.
 
The EA430 has a total of 30A on the +12V rail. Your current PSU will handle the HD4850.
