I just started to build my computer today and I got everything in and when I tried to start it up nothing came on. The LCD power light on the motherboard comes on but no fans or anything come on. I have no clue what is wrong. My friend said maybe the motherboard got fried from static. Does anyone have any suggestions?
 
List us the specs of your sytem first. Try assemlbing it outside of the case, then power it on. Did you connect the auxiliary power 4-pin connector (along with the 20/24-pin main?), did you use just one stick of ram and switch them out to test them? Did you try clearing the CMOS via the jumper?

We need to know all this...
 
i bet you that when u hooked up the atx jumper wire from ur case (the power button) you put it in the wrong spot or upside down. Check that.

You can't put it in upside down...it will work both directions :).

yeah its a momentary switch it should work no matter which way you plug it in

try this turn off your comp and unplug the cord, hit the power switch plug the cord back in and hit the power button again, it will come on

comps back in the day used to have actual interupt switches, but the ones nowadays usually arent.
 
The power switch just closes the connection between the two pins while it's pushed in. If the computer's off, a connection between the two pins generally means "turn on". You can turn on your computer by simply shorting those two pins with something metal like a screwdriver. That's essentially all the power switch on an ATX system does.
