My brother gave me his computer a few weeks ago. Finally got around to hooking it up, first few days it worked fine, then randomly the video signal to the monitor would black out. Now it blue screens. Tried reformating and restoring everything, nothing helped. Looked at all the connnections and hardware inside, nothing looks damaged or broken. Any idea on what caused this? Or any solutions? My brother mintioned something about thermal paste, if that helps any.

Hit up the stickied "Basic Troubleshooting Guide" and follow the steps there to diagnose hardware issues.

In addition, specs of the PC would help. Also find out the exact BSOD code you're getting.
 
Okay, when I get home ill post the specs and try and get the bsod code. Tho it usually is only up for a few seconds, or the screen is so pixelated that I can't read it.
