I've been troubleshooting a stuttering/hitching problem on my new rig. I've gone through many different troubleshooting steps including upgrading my bios. I'm now focusing on my C300 128gig SSD.

This issue has gotten worse in the two weeks since I built the rig. My SSD includes Windows 7 and 3 games that I frequently play.

Should I be looking at firmware or driver updates? Does this issue sound like something that could be related to the SSD?

Did you image a previous system to this drive? Are you running your BIOS in IDE, AHCI, or RAID mode?

I didn't image a previous system to this drive. It is in AHCI mode.

I've read that Crucial is working on a new firmware update. Hopefully available by the end of this month.

If you're running the Intel drivers you could try the registry mod by Intel or some have had good luck changing to the MS drivers.

You could also try changing the power options to eliminate hibernation and making sure that the HD never goes to sleep.

I had a lot of I/O issues when after installing Win 7 onto my C300 and eventually it would always freeze during boot up forcing me to switch from AHCI to IDE mode in order for me to delete the partition and reinstall the OS. I learned to NOT install the Intel RST drivers using the F6 method or else my drive would become unbootable as the BIOS would literally freeze trying to detect the drive in AHCI mode. I did the registry fix (which disabled low power states to each SATA port) and the problems completely went away.

So for a first time user, I recommend that you set it AHCI mode in BIOS, install the OS like you normally would (using the Windows 7 drivers), when the OS is first up and running, install the Intel RST drivers using the executable, apply the registry fix, and restart the computer. After that, you can then install Intel chipset drivers (which won't override the RST drivers, installing them before the RST drivers also caused me more headaches ), then the rest of your drivers/SSD OS tweaks/software. It was a pretty tough first day when I got the drive but since then the drive has been running beautifully.

Well, I don't have freeze issues luckily but I do have extremely high DPC latency which has been hard for me to track down. A lag monitor program seems to indicate that a SCSI Port driver is experiencing tons of conflicts. Is this due to the C300 configuration or to the way I used my SATA ports on the motherboard do you think?

The C300 is currently set to AHCI.

I think I can definitely try the registry fix. But I avoided the F6 Intel RST driver install because it simply seemed too complex for me.

Ya know..... I've been reading up on the Marvell controller and what its intended purpose is. It appears that it is designed to make a SSD and a HDD work together as one drive. This was not my intent with my system where I was satisfied with the C300 being my primary drive (Windows + some frequently used games) and my Samsung HDD being a storage drive.

So in the end, I have my C300 and my Blu-Ray burner on the Marvell controller. I did this innocently enough thinking that I'd just use 6G Sata for those two for transfer rates.

I wonder if I just use the Intel Native SATA ports if I'll be OK. Can I switch SATA ports safely without too much hassle, or will my system have a hard time with that?
