Need Help With New MOBO

Built New RIG over Weekend
Computer stays on for about 10 sec then shuts off. Turn it back on and stays on for about 5 sec then shuts off. Wont stay on long enough to get to bios.
Need Help If anybody have any suggestions. Could be somthing simple

Specs
Mother board DFI 875 T 775 socket
P4 Prescott 3.4 775
Cosairs 2* 256 Dual Channel
80 gig sata Hard Drive XP Pro installed Also Have a 60 gig p-ata with xp pro if nessary
9800 xt video card
sony DVD
sony 3.5

Maybe be the problem with PSU
500w ultra set at 115 using a 20 to 24 pin adapter. Talk to a computer shop they said it should work. I was not really sold on that idea.
 
Is the HSF attached properly? It could just be overheating that fast and the safeguards shut it off before frying.
 
I agree the heatsink may not be attached correctly, or the thermal compound is improperly applied or missing. You may also have the CPU fan attached to the wrong power header. If you have another fan from an old unit try it. Just looking it's hard to tell the difference between 100 rpm and 1500 rpm. Have you tried clearing the Bios? 500 watts should be enough, try remove the power from non-needed essentials to get to the Bios. You don't need any drives, modem etc... You do need your memory, video, cpu, keys. If it posts turn it off and reconnect 1 item and try it again. Repeat until it won't post again. That item will ethier be bad or you've exceed the power requirements. To see if it's bad disconnect a "good" item and plug in the last item. If it works then it's your power. If it's a card then try a different slot. A bad cpu, memory or video should give you beaps, but stranger things have happened. Try swapping them out with good hardware if possible. You may need to visit a local repair shop.
