Hi guys,

I need some advice. I've upgraded my motherboard and video card and kept all the other existing parts. When I turn it on, the fans turn on but there is no bootup or video on my monitor. I thought it was the video card so I replaced it with the old video card. Still, no video. Then I thought it was a defective motherboard so I exchanged it and set it up again. It's still the same problem. I put the old motherboard back on with the new and old video card and it was booting. I think that rules out the CPU and memory as an issue.

So I can only come up with a few theories.
1. I have a good power supply, but maybe something is wrong with the 12v rails and it's not giving enough juice to the new motherboard?
2. Unlikely, but the motherboard is another defective one?

Anyone know what I should try to do? Thanks!!!

Hmm....I have the gigabyte P35-DS3L and I just found the CPU support list:

Intel P4 840(3.2GHz,2MB) 800 F2
Intel P4 830(3.0GHz,2MB) 800 F2
Intel P4 820(2.8GHz,2MB) 800 F2
Intel P4 805(2.66GHz,2MB) 533 N/A

Are these the "D" series? I have the Pentium D 805 and "N/A" means unsupported.

That must be it  It says it supports Pentium D! I wonder why mine is unsupported.

It may be possible that your mobo doesn't do the 533 Mhz FSB, but this is just a guess. That's really what separates the 805 from the rest of the D series, and why they have been so so cheap.

I just checked the compatability list as well... the P35-DS3L doesn't support processors with 533MHz FSB. (And yes, your Pentium D 805 has a 533MHz FSB....) If you have, say, $200 to spend, you could be set with a Core 2 Duo E4500 ($130) and 2GB of G.Skill DDR2 800 RAM ($66). If you have more money to spend, then I would suggest either the Core 2 Duo E6750 ($194) or the Core 2 Quad Q6600 ($280). (You don't really need more than 2GB of RAM right now, unless you are using Vista x64.)

Could you also tell us the rest of your rig's specs, especially the other parts that you've recycled? It will help us determine whether or not you need to get more parts. (Most likely, you would....)

Thanks for the help. All I wanted was a new motherboard that wouldn't screw up with vista (I had the Abit NI8 SLI)

I bought the 320MB 8800GTS to upgrade my old x850.
I have the Antec Neo 480 power supply
I have 3GB of Corsair XMS DDR2 PC2 5300

I guess I have 2 options:

1. Downgrade the motherboard to one that can take the 533 Mhz FSB
2. Keep the DS3L motherboard, get the E4500 dual core
3. Keep the DS3L motherboard, get the Q6600

I like option 3 the best now, but of course it's the most expensive. My purchases have gone from just buying the motherboard ($120) to a video card ($250) and possibly the 6600 ($280) Ahhhh! I may just cop out and go with option #1

Will I see a huge difference from going from an overclocked 805 (3.4 ghz) to a Q6600? I couldn't find benchmarks between these CPUs.
