Freshly formatted from MS Dos disk.
Recreated partition and tested.
HDD fine on alt system no problems.
Pulled NIC and Soundcard
Disabled Raid and other onboard extras on mobo
Pulled bios battery for 24 hours.
Current bios update
System boots from Win XP Pro retail cd and allows me to remove partition.
Create New NTFS normal format not quick.
Installs all needed files.
Reboot
Starts loading to Windows XP Splash screen Fade in (locks up)
Pulled mobo from case, blew off dust, reseat proc, clean proc properly, apply new thermal,
Clearn heatsink, reapply, check studs for mobo, put mobo back on case plate, check for flexing, insert memory, pci, agp, slide plate back into case.
Start from step one same thing happens.
Take HDD to another system, step one started.
Loads, installs, boots, runs windows no problems..
So why is it the system will lock on windows loading splash screen during fade in..
I've yet to figure it out.. I think maybe my mobo is just trash now???
 
How long did you let it sit? All my computers take varying amounts of time at the win2k splash screen. Single amd 2500 is about 5 seconds, dual amd 1800 is about 1 minute and the old pII 300 takes about 15minutes. I hate rebooting that computer.

Try running memtest, see if perhaps the ram is bad. I've had that happen, where it will let you install, but once it goes to use a certain area of the ram it chokes.

Do you have a different version of windows, or perhaps knoppix that you could try? See what those do on loading. If you can swap out hardware, go for it; the mobo is a good guess.

Beyond that, I out of ideas.

Check your capacitors. My VP6 died because it blew out about 12 different caps.
 
There are 2 512 sticks i've tryied them soloed in each slot.
I've letit sit for a few mins but it's locked.
I've left it alone for the time being till I can get another mobo and proc to test with.
 
Mine just started doing the same exact thing. Did you ever figure out a solution?
