Need help with FX upgrade

I'm looking to upgrade my system from intel to AMD and I need suggestions on what proc to buy...I'm looking at the FX-57, FX-60, or actually waiting until M2....which should I get? should I wait until socket 940?

well, how urgently do you need the upgrade? If you require more power now then you will have to go with either the FX60 or FX57. Otherwise, if you can wait till AM2 is out, you can see what performance improvement it gives you and then decide what you want to do. Depending on what Intel system you have, an upgrade to AM2 may be significantly cheaper if you want to reuse your RAM, for example.

I believe it depends upon the "leap" you are taking. I upgraded from a P4 to an FX-55 about six months ago and I am still happy with the performance. However, my point is this, I would not upgrade to an FX-60 now as the gains would not justify the expense. If I were in your shoes I would probably go with the 60 if it fits your budget. Of course you could buy a 55 and OC it to 57 levels.

MOST Opterons are good for 2.8ghz with 1.5 volts! on really good air-cooling.

I get 3148 on my FX-55 at 1.63 under a Vapo.

I love my FX-57.....but its solely for games, and it is brutal

I could not be more happier with my FX-55. I have it tweaked a bit higher then normal running speeds, SLI 7800GTX's, can't go wrong.

Although the FX-60 looks SWEET Considering that this is the last 939 FX chip coming out. I'm at a dead end unless I want to upgrade my motherboard, which I don't want to do. So I might order the FX-60 when Unreal Tournament 2007 ships. The rest of my system is ready to go. For UT2007 and Quake Wars.
