1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

Gaming

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

$600 or less, or more if necessary

3) Where do you live?

USA

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.

Case, CPU, RAM, MOBO, GPU, PSU, and Monitor.

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

I will be reusing my 74GB hdd and I have an OS already

6) Will you be overclocking?

Yes

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?

I would like at least a 19" high res

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

ASAP

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.

I don't really need cross fire

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?

Yes, I have Windows 7 64bit

I'm not really new to the scene, however I've been gone for a while and so I'm not up to date with the absolute best bang for the buck going around here lately. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

+1 to shiro, although if you can spare even more I would say to get a nice 22" monitor with atleast 1680x1050 res. Anything else is just a waste.

I can second that video card. I have 2x HIS 5770's and they are awesome. The performance you get from these cards for the cost involved is remarkable.

they are about even

not within your price range.

Thanks for the quick reply.

As for the memory, it seems like it's currently unavailable now. Is there any equivalent or should I wait until they restock? Will it be the same price?

how long is AMD planning to use that socket AM3? I'm wondering if they will offer faster CPU's in the future?

Another year or two at least. AMD is releasing their six-core CPUs later this year.

Does this motherboard, the AMD AM3 785G allow you to unlock the other cores?

What motherboards allow that?

Not to derail this thread but what PSU are you using for your sys?

shiro's build is good w/ HG's 22" rec. If you want more headroom in your PSU, get the ECO 520 hd listed.
buying a 400cx in post #2

I think he was talking to the guy he quoted, Perilous, who's running dual HD 5770's. He shoulda PM'd him instead, though. :p
