I am new to this forum.
I recently purchased a HP 8740W elitebook with Dreamcolor 2 panel . Its a IPS panel and is 10-Bit. It's loaded with ATI M7820 Graphic Card.
I was using the ATI suggested method to see if photoshop can process 10-bit images. While doing so, i noticed banding as seen in the image below. Is this a acceptable banding?

But when i go thru the Lagom LCD Test, i dont see that many. Below is a screenie of the same.

Can anyone help me out with a correct way of looking at banding and what is the acceptable level.?

The first image bands on my CRT, Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070SB. It only has 27 different pixel values over 630 pixels = ~23 pixels/value, so it's going to band.

The first image is a simple linear blend from an 8bpp image. You can visually eliminate banding via super sampling and dithering. By default the PS gradient tool dithers gradients, so if you recreate that same image, it can look visually smooth. Any 8/10-bit display will show the Lagom image perfectly.

With a width of 23 pixels of width per brightness in the first picture, it IS possible to see the banding. 8-bit really isn't very good with slight gradients over large pixel widths. It's not very major but it's noticeable.
