i can get into windows xp just fine just wont let install a new copy :-(

btw the computer speaks to me during bios ! during the boot sequence it says " loading Operating system through my speakers wierd huh never had that before on my old comps ! would that be th emotherbaord or a third party program ?

not sure about your issue. but here's how you can find out what processor you have :)

To format it and do a fresh install of Windozes you will need your SCSI drivers on a floppy.
Then at the start of the install proccess you need to push "F6" when told to.
Load the SCSI drivers from floppy and Windozes will see the hard drive.

Luck........... :D

Does it say "Good morning, Dave" when you turn it on? :p

Sounds like a nice deal you got!

It's your " ASUS POST Reporter" speaking to you.

For your drive, you don't see it listed under disk drives in the Device Manager, or in Bios? Since you say that you can get into the current install of windows XP, then the drive has been recognized and listed somewhere. So.

A fresh install typically: , boot system by the Windows XP CD, when the message "Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver" shows up, press "F6". Then, press "S" to specify additional device when next screen pops up. You're going to need to find the drive type and then the drivers. After the drivers load and Windows XP can recognize the HDD, you can continue to install Windows XP as usual. ( Edit: See that Tigerbiten got that already.)

DougLite over in Disk Storage systems can give you additonal advice on drives: http://www.hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29

It was a good deal. Congrats.

first of all let me tell you thank you all for your help

but i cannot find the drivers for the scsi hardrive :-( becuase id o not know the name of them i dont know what to do :-(

You don't need drivers on disk for a lot of SCSI controllers. My LSIU160 is supported by Windows, no disk necessary.

Try updating the BIOS of the board.

im seriously thinking of getting my 80 gig IDE i have and replacing it with the SCSI hardrive is that SCSI hardrive that fast ?

ok here is a pic of the harddrive properties

Image1.jpg

at first i thought it was a SCSI hardrive cuase nt he properties it says SCSI so i got the model number and check up on seagate for the drivers

model number st380013 as

but it apears to be a reguler seagate barracuda hardrive SATA
http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/specs/sata/st380013as.html
so is this hardrive scsi or sata ?
when i looked inside it connects straight to the motherboard

now is this the right drivers for this hardrive im confused ? i want to format this bad boy already hehe

again thank you all for your help

ok i made a floppy with hopefually the right bios now when i press f6 to load it from the floppy it says that it cannot find TXTSETUP.OEM and i can install windows xp :-( i dont know what to do

Its not the hard drive drivers you need to load with F6, its the controllers drivers.
Hopefully you understand that.

Go System Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager.
Now look under SCSI & raid Controllers.
You should be able to find which type of controller you have (SATA or SCSI), who made it, etc, etc.
Once you have that info then go look for the controllers drivers.
Once you have them on a floppy you will be good to go.

Some mobo's call a SATA hard drive a SCSI one just because its not an IDE one.
Hope that helps.

Luck....... :D
