I have been having some issues with my desktop computer for quite some time now when it comes to connecting to my house network and the internet. It has a Crosshair I R.o.G. motherboard and for some reason the computer is not recognizing either of the ethernet ports on the board, not sure why.

In network connections the "Local Area Connection"s are simply not there for some reason, all I have is a 1394 Net Adapter. The computer can not connect to the internet when either of the ports has an ethernet cable connected to it.

My next step was to hook up a spare PCI network adapter I had laying around. It installed itself fine and everything but for some reason I have "Limited Network connectivity" yet I am having no problems with connecting to the internet/network via my laptop.

I can't seem to figure this out. If anybody has any ideas that would be a great help! Thanks in advance.

whats the exact model # of the motherboard?

have you tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstall?

If you plug in a network cable, and you plug it into your switch / router what have you. Do you get lights on either/both/neither ends of the cable? You may have a dead onboard NIC.
Ignore what Windows says. Very basic connection from point A to B, something should light up :) If not, its dead.

Not sure on the exact model number... I do believe that it is behind where my graphics card is currently sitting at though...

I have not uninstalled the drivers or reinstalled. It's kind of a bitch with the asus boards, atleast that's how the instructions make it sound. Was hoping that would be a last resort.

On one of the onboard ports they lights do not light up, but on the other they do. Whether the cable is in either A/B slot, they light up on the router.

While trying what you recommended though, I tried to configure a network connection, it went through the entire process but did not create the new connection in the "Network Connections" screen. Weird. But, after plugging it back into the PCI network card "Local Area Connection 6" became enabled, and then a "Internet Connection" appeared and enabled itself and now it's working.

The problem with that is that I've had that come up before and then it will disappear after a little while, don't know how it is created or where it goes but I know I have seen it before yet not in like a year or so.

Thanks for the help so far!

my P5W-DH use to lose it network connections some times, reboot would fix it but I never got to the bottom of it.
