need help, gpu wont output to screen! :(

hello everyone,

I have taken a old core two duo system using a P5B deluxe mobo apart and
added new thermal paste.

I had trouble with the socket 775 pins, and one maybe broken but i managed to fix it in place.

after powering up with everything in place, and running fine, i got "no input" on my display

so, i switched the gpu card for another one, but ended up with the same problem.

After reading the manual i Reset the CMOS, and tried again, same problem.

Everything seems to be working, but i cant get it to output to the screen.

any ideas?

spec: e6700 ,2gb ram corsair,320gb hdd, gpu 4850 ati

notes: no speaker output sounds or errors, 1 dimm test done, no ram test done

did you try a different pcie slot for the card? if that doesnt work, try switching between outputs-hdmi/vga/dvi

yeh i tried the second pci-e slot
also check dvi and vga, display auto detects input too

dont know what else it could be
 
The damaged CPU perhaps? Try a different motherboard or CPU.

i really hope its not damaged, i dont really have another mobo or cpu

the computer im using could be a option but i dont wana end up with nothing

guess il have to buy new, start new build

BUT

i was thinking maybe the cpu cooler isnt seated or something dosnt look or feel like it isnt
 
right i tried it out, this stock intell cooler just dosnt cut it, i hate the design of plastic pin's.

anyway i looked online and since im going to use this in a slim case, i need a good
cooler that dosnt go above the PCI slots height.

ok, think desktop not a tower case, so the display sits on top.

the highest point in the case is the same as the pci slots.

any ideas on what coolers to get for socket 775 ( i want to OC this to 3ghz if possible)
 
Before you start worrying about overclocking. what about the issue you have now?

i beleive its the cpu cooler since one of the pins is broken, so i thought if i order a new cooler and mount that maybe it will work

your probably thinking ...... but how would a broken cooler cause a gpu not to output anything? ( im just hoping for the best )

im guessing the cooler must have broke when i re-mounted it in place, its seems not to move
but still the same result so i was thinking, i could just try and find a new cooler

oh and i found a little tiny peice of black plastic that snapped of the cooler
 
Good luck there.

Oh and "the highest point in the case is the same as the pci slots." doesn't really help since slim PC cases come with either low-profile expansion and regular expansion slots.

sorry i should have metioned that, the case i have has ONE single regular expansion slot!

im also hunting for the best single slot gpu i can find, or i have a 4850 which i could buy a new heatsink for but its more likely that a newer card would be cheaper and better proformance ( i would like fanless gpu becuase theres not much space, the PSU is right next to the pci slot)

You're not gonna find a fanless single slot GPU that's faster than your HD 4850. In addition, while yes there are faster video cards than the HD 4850, they're not cheaper than you getting a new HSF for the HD 4850. This is the cheapest bang for the buck single slot gaming card I know of:
$153 - XFX HD 5770 1GB PCI-E Video Card

If you already have the HD 4850 1GB card, then it might not be worth upgrading to the HD 5770.
