Ok guys, I'm not exactly a newbie, but I've been deployed to Afghanistan for a year now and I'm getting ready to come home. I had an old system that was decent in it's heyday, but is naturally worthless at the moment.
So - I need to build a monster. I was looking to spend about 5k on the parts (I have a decent hookup on displays, thinking of going dual 30" apple cinemas). Overclocking and watercooling isnt a necessity at this point, but I want to be ready for it. Trouble is, for the first time in my life, I find myself having more money than knowledge, haha.
From the basic research I've done on this ridiculously slow sat internet we have at my firebase, it's looking like my best bet is going to be quad core intel stuff and 680i chipset for mobo. Also am naturally going to need quad SLI to make it work with dual 30" monitors. Maybe that's impossible? This is where I need input. I've got a whole passel of drives that I stuck in Icy Dock enclosures here for pr0n storage, over a terabyte there, and I can pull those for bulk storage, so definitely just looking at dual 150gb Raptors in a striped array.
So basically, if you guys wouldn't mind, hypothetically spend my money and tell me what to buy, haha. I should be home by the end of June, so I figure I can just order a bunch of parts and have them shipped home. Or, if not that, some pointers and directions to head in would be great.
My biggest questions are - Is dual 30" displays possible with quad SLI? Which case would give me the easiest setup for watercooling in the future (I had been looking at the Lian Li PC-V2000 or whatever, with the upside down Mobo and PSU at the bottom, looked perfect. Thanks ahead of time for the help, normally I'd just buckle down and bring myself up to speed, but when you're looking down the barrel of 5 minute load times (per page), it just isn't that practical.
