Within a couple weeks I will be purchasing a QNAP NAS Box (link), and I need suggestions for two 2TB hard drives that will be installed and configured as RAID-1.

The NAS's role is to house music/video files accessed by a couple machines through my home network, and all LAN connections are Cat6 to a single GbE switch.

Edit: I am also considering two 1TB hard drives, given the recent price spike. So suggestions on those sized hard drives are also appreciated.

I recommend this 2TB drive:
$160 - Samsung Spinpoint F4 HD204UI 2TB 5400 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Great, thanks for the drive suggestion. (And also moving the thread to a more appropriate forum.)

What 1 TB drive(s) should I consider?

The problem with the 1TB drives is that they're not much cheaper than a 2TB drive hence why I wouldn't recommend them for a NAS with only two slots.

But if you really want 1TB drives, this is the cheapest 1TB drive available at $110:

Only a $50 difference. A 32% price increase for a 50% space increase sounds like the better deal to me. And I was recommending one of the higher quality and longer warrantied 2TB drives. If you're willing to forgo a longer warranty and a little bit of quality, the difference between a 1TB and 2TB drive is only $20:

So basically, 1TB drives aren't a good buy from a storage standpoint.

I see your point, and the price/value comparison was a topic I was interested in. Thanks for the guidance, Danny.

Follow-up:

Received the NAS a week ago. Things are running beautifully so far. Very quiet, too. Thanks again for the 2 TB drive suggestion.
