they will be used mainly for games and music, i want the best sound quality, but i really dont want to have to get an amp... i dont really know that much about amps to begin with, but i dont really wanna spend much more money than the price of the 580s there unless you guys can direct me to somewhere cheaper. another selling point for me is noise cancelation. currently im running a vantec 92mm tornado for my cpu cooling, and if you know anything about this fan, then you can sum it up in one word.. LOUD. 58db or something last time i checked, and my computer is sitting on top of my desk... sooo the 580s might not be so good since they are open... these are the two i narrowed it down to, but i dont know about any other brands, so if you got something you would recommend over either of these, i would appreciate the advice.


-no amp
-noise cancellation ( not enough on my 150s currently, unless its loud )
-used for games and music
-will be run on nforce 2 onboard sound ( which sounds damn good on my senn 150s currently)
 
If you want isolation, the HD580s will provide none. The HD280s are much better in this regard.

LMFAO... i was gonna go watercooling, but then, 500 dollars later, i decided to wait till my socket m2 upgrade to go water cooling... so the only recommendation so far is for the ath-a500 at audiocubes


edit: dang, i just checked that fan you linked to, it only moves 28cfm, mine currently pushes 120..
 
Go with the HD280s. The A500s, although closed, don't block that much noise.
 
but they are VERY VERY comfortable , and the hd280 is debatable....
your head would be sqeezed depending on the size of your head ;P
 
It's true they are pretty comfortable in that the 3-d wing system does a good job of distributing the weight evenly. The only thing they are missing are velour/cloth earpads to prevent sweaty/damp ears. As far as headphone clamp goes, I find that normal usage stretches them out a bit.

I'm curious azn_plyr, have you used any of these cans?
 
nah but lots of people.. well msot agrres the aXXX series from audiotechinica is the best for comfort..

BUT I have tested the HD280 at guitar center.. they sqeeze... but not ad for a short period... don't know about longer periods of time, but I am sure it will get worst..

BUT he didn't mention anything about comfort...... :p

and stid3r!! I am new to the audiophile scene! hehe I am jsut getting into it and I ordering a pair of HD485.. ( again hd555 got canceled) and sr60's hehe
 
lol I was thinking about Sennheiser 485 then 555. Then I wanted the Beyer dynamics DT 990 PRO then DT 770 PRO. Now I have ordered the SR 80 after checking out the audio technica and such....

It´s really a jungle. But the Grado do seem great if you don´t want an amp.

Have heard that Sennheiser is not that good for gaming because of bad positional sound or something...

I am quite curious to find out how the X FI headphone CMSS3D mode can compete with my 5.1 headphones. Now that canutilize CMSS3D as well but in speaker mode. I have set it up so the speakers is say 0,1 metre away from me. The smallest value you can add. And I must say in F.E.A.R I do here more audio cues then with my Audigy 2 in the demo :). However I had an oem card so I couldn´t utilize EAX HD fully.

the sr60's are suppose to be better than the sr80's without an amp.. but the sr80's shine with an amp :p

Hey, don't worry about it. I did not intend to come off as aggressive. I remember seeing your thread on head-fi, so I was curious as your posts seem to suggest that you have owned or used these cans before.

Edit: Damn, yall post too quickly. FWIW, I use my HD600s for gaming and like them just fine. The SR60s are OK for gaming, did not think it was spectacular.

It's like dewd you don't no freaking fan that is louder then most of the vacuum cleaners on the market to cool your CPU. :eek:

Water cooling?
You don't need no stinking water cooling system to make your PC quieter.... but you do need some common sense. ;)

No, the other recommendation is that you buy a quieter CPU fan.
Once you do that open headphones become a much better bang per buck option for you to explore.
Not to mention you get your sanity back.....

wow, that is real ummm, something. :p
Your one fan moves more air then all seven of the fans in MY PC combined.
 
yes.. I had 2 thermaltake fans that ran at 48? dba each.... when at full blast... now I run them on minimum and are going for open headphones :p
