1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Primary is as a vmware network lab environment to study for MCITP certs. O/S's installed will be Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 client, linux flavors and other random virtual o/s environments like Exchange, a sql database, webserver, etc. I will also be doing some gaming; ME3, TF2, Diablo 3, SC2.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1000, yes
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
USA, Orlando, FL
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU, RAM, Case, Motherboard, CD/DVD Burner, Hard Drive, Cooling
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 1GB, Silverstone Strider Plus ST50F-P 500W, monitor, keyboard & mouse.
6) Will you be overclocking?
No plans
7) 7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
22" 1920x1080
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
In the next few weeks
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
Nothing special other then I need a 64bit mobo/processor combo so I can run Windows Server 2008 R2
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
No but I would like to use Windows 7 64bit
I'll at most maybe have 3 virtual environments running at the same time. Though I don't imagine for an extended period of time just for the purpose of running an exercise in the lab. The home lab portion of this build is to aid me in studying for my certifications.
PC noise is also a concern so the quieter the better. When I'm playing a game I don't mind if the PC gets louder as the fans spin up but I would like it to idle as quiet as possible because I plan on leaving the computer on 24/7 so I can remote in from work and my wife works from home. ...can't have an angry wife.
Thanks for the help.
