Need advice for a new Rig!

Hello everyone at [H]!

It's been around a year since I've built my last rig and I recently got asked to put together a new rig for my girlfriend.

First, here is my current rig:

Case: Antec P180
CPU: Q6600 @ 3.4ghz
HSF: TRUE 120 Extreme with Scythe
Motherboard: Abit IP-35E
RAM: 4GB DDR2 OCZ Platinum @ 378 4-4-4-15
GPU: GeForce 8800 GT

Now...I want my girlfriends rig to be similar, if not better. Budget wise, I'd say around 700 Euros (yes Euros, I live in Germany) are available.

Since I've not been keeping up with the latest hardware for over a year, I really have no idea where to start.

If someone could maybe list a few components that would work with the above mentioned budget and rig specifications that'd be great!

22", might upgrade soon

Sata is the only thing that's really needed. Firewire, RAID, Crossfire, SLI will not be used. Though the mobo should be a good and stable overclocker.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?

That one is looking very nice!

Still deciding on whether I want to go with ATI or Nvidia. Always had Nvidia.

Also, is there anything on that list that could be a little cheaper, yet keep roughly the same performance?

Lastly, how well can you overclock that i5? Average gain on air using a high-end after market HSF.

You could probably get to 3.2-3.4 on the stock heatsink, but it varies. The only variable that I can see up there is the videocard, you could use a 9800gt.

Wasn't planning on, but thanks for the concern! I want to get an antec psu for sure, always been satisfied with them.

Just chose another GPU.

But I'm still trying to skim it down a little. It wouldn't really need to be all that performance rich (Yet better than the rig I posted at the very top). While my girlfriend does do some gaming and editing, it's not that much.

Any other suggestions?
 
Not sure I want to go with the X3, it's a considerable drop from the i5. Not really a fan of AMD anyway.

I'll keep looking for a suitable cpu :)

The i5 750 is your best bet then for an Intel CPU if you really want Intel. Intel's socket 775 CPUs such as the C2D and C2Q line are not worth the money considering that many AMD CPUs perform just as well while being significantly cheaper and with better CPU upgrade path.

So as gwarren007 said: Either go for i5 or socket AM3/AMD.
