I've been having a hard time figuring out which UPS I should get and which brand is reliable. I heard APC is good, but they charge a premium over this brand from NCIX which I can't remember from the top of my head, but it begins with an "o".

Anyways my system consist of a AMD Opteron at 2.2ghz, Geforce 7800 GT, 480W P.S, Chaintech AV-710, Dell 2405FPW and other minor components like DVD burner.

I'm also thinking of adding another 2405FPW or even a 2407FPW in the near future so I'm hoping the UPS will have enough energy to hold the system for at least 10 minutes in case there is a loss of power. Any suggestions?

For that kind of a system, with the backup time desired, you are looking in the 750-1200VA range (what exactly is a VA? It seems like it should mean Watt, but it does not), with 1000VA beaing able to back up 670W max (that is how it is on my Smart UPS 1000, not sure if that rating is universal). If possible, get one with true sine wave output (the APC smart series does this), but it is not critical if you don't run your components on battery very often. Line interactive is also a VERY nice, feature, as I understand ti it can smooth out dirty power, brown outs, etc.

Nevermind the components inside your system. What PSU (wattage) is running the system, and what else will you want connected to the UPS?

The PSU wattage doesn't matter as it only produces the wattage neccesarily for the components "inside"....so the components inside are what is needed to figure a draw. The key about a PSU that is important is if it has Active PFC http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1029405723#post1029405723
