Need a psu reccomendation

Hi guys, my buddy has the following setup

Intel E6750 2.66 g
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
evga 8800gts 320mb
2 gig ocz platinum xtc ddr2 800mhz
coolermaster 600w extreme power psu
10,000 rpm raptor hd
7200 rpm 200g hd sata
1 dvd burner

Today we were oc'ing the gpu. We bumped the clocks to 625mhz and 925mhz, ran the artifact checker and 3 mins in the computer shut off with out any notice, no beeps nothing.
Yesterday when he was gaming for about an hour (at factory clocks of 576mhz and 825 mhz) his frames dropped from 150 to 20. He restarted the computer and things were ok for a while.

My first thought was the psu, what do you all think? The cpu is running the stock cooler and is NOT oc'd.

I am thinking that the heat and power being generated is exceeding the ability of that CoolerMaster 600w extreme power psu. Here is a link,

Just looking at the specs for that psu it seems like it shouldn't have too much of a problem. When he was playing for an hour, was that with the overclocked card or at stock speeds? It sounds to me more like a heat problem. I have an 8800gt and it gets fairly warm at stock speeds. If you can check the card temps with a program such as ntune at stock speeds vs overclocked that could be helpful.
 
heat does seem to be the main issue here, but just in case get a voltage tester and check all the voltages to make sure that your PSU is running fine from there try adding more fans and getting some better cooling.
 
well I must admit the I do not know what type of case he has or what ventilation and fean setup he has. I will check and update post. Thnx guys!
 
It's not heat. It's just an inadequate PSU.

It's not a 600W, it's a 500W labeled as a 600W. And that's 500W at 25°C, so at actual operating temperatures that PSU is probably only capable of putting out 375W. And the way those +12V rails are split up; 18A is going to the CPU while the other 18A is going to all of the other components... including a power hungry G80 8800 GTS.

I don't get it. He's got a $250 graphics card but a $50 PSU? Wrong. Just wrong.

I was lookng at the following psu's to replace this unit. Input would be appreciated.

I'm in the market for a new psu but I know that Corsair unit has been recommended a number of times, so that's probably the best bet. And 41A on the +12 is purdy good. Would be interested to hear if that fixes the problem.
 
well it turns out that he is using an old school white box case with 1 fan =( So he has decided to upgrade the psu first. I reccomended that he does box case and psu but hes trying the psu first.
 
I recommend the Corsair. It's the highest quality PSU out of that list of PSUs you have provided us.
