Need a new power supply

I've been out of the loop for a while, so I'm looking for some suggestions.

For now, I'll be running:
Q6600
8800GTS 512
Watercooling
~4 hard disks

Eventually, I'll want to go with a new graphics card (possibly SLi or Crossfire). In the future, I may go to i7 or Phenom 2.

I'd really like it to be quiet. Corsair and PC Power and Cooling seem to be well regarded here.

Quality 500-600W should take care of you.

Goto Newegg.com, do a power search for 500-700W, 80plus rated, find a psu that meets your price you like, and check Hard reviews and/or Jonnyguru reviews.

Get one with a 120mm or 135mm fan and it will most likely be very quiet.

$200 for a quality 1000W psu isn't bad. Plus it will take care of him for awhile.

Any of those PSUs would be a good choice. Though I'd go with the red PC P&C since it has free shipping and a lower price. However, if you're willing to buy outside of newegg, I highly recommend getting the BFG ES-800 for $115 from provantage.com like tuksonrider recommended

Of the 3 options you linked, the Corsair is likely to be the quieter. That seemed to be somewhat a concern based on your first post.

Quiet is great as long as I'm not sacrificing quality. The [H] review of the Corsair seemed less enthusiastic than the PC Power & Cooling.

Just found out newegg has the BFG-ES800 cheaper if you count the mail-in rebate ($90) :D

This one is probably the best for your buck.

So everyone agrees that the BFG is a solid unit? It looks good and the price is great. This may be the one.

pc power and cooling is my suggestion. they make some of the best psu's available. My 750 quad silencer doesn't make any noise as far as I can tell. I don't think I've ever heard it over my case fans. Even right now while I have all my components running on my desk without a case, the psu doesn't make any noise.

I'm still torn between the BFG, the Corsair, and the PC Power and Cooling.
They are all very good quality power supplies. You aren't saccirifing on quality with any of them.

1. Consider warranty periods.

2. Consider the ones with 120mm or larger fans will likely be quieter. The PCPC ones you linked had 80mm fans and are likely the noisier of the bunch. Then again I have seen whisper silent PSU's with 80mm fans, it's kind of a toss up on how hard the manufacturer has to run the little fan to keep the PSU's components in spec. Still... I would lean toward Corsair or BFG.

I couldn't agree more. PC Power & Cooling is the only way to go for a power supply. I have the Turbo 860W and it's rock solid and quiet.

I debated on the Corsair 750W and almost ended up purchasing it, but the slight issues it has with ripple turned me off to it. I think the minor issues they have had is why Corsair just released their 850W, but I'm just speculating. Anyhow, I just decided that this time around, for my i7 build, I just wasn't going to skimp on the power supply. Figured I'd spend $50-100 more and get the one that was calling my name.
