Alright, so my brother has his modem and router (Linksys WRT150N) set-up in his room. And in the living room I have;

1) Dell Inspiron 1525 that usually receives a pretty good signal.
2) Wii that seems to get a connection, but I can't tell if the signal is strong enough.
3) PS3 that only gets like 10-15%
4) Xbox 360 without the wireless adaptor

I want to know what would be the best and most cost effective way to give them all (better) internet access.

So far... I've tried bridging a connection to the 360 using a crossover cable from the laptop (I really don't want to spend $100 on MS's USB adapter.) It seems to work ok, but it doesn't work for the PS3 or Wii. So I'm thinking of getting a wireless signal booster/repeater or something, but I just don't know how well those things work.

My other option would be to do the DD-WRT route, but I'm also not too sure how that would work out either.

Can anyone give me their advice and suggestions? Thanks in advanced! :)

get a small switch plug all your crap into that. Run a cable from the switch to your bro's router. Done. Rock Solid.

Or you can get a router, flash with DD-WRT and run it as a bridge or WDS link to your bro's router and then plug all your crap into the back of the router. Done. not quite as solid.

Yeah, the thing is that... They don't want me running a long wire from his room to the living room :p

I can probably run the wires from a DD-WRT router though, but I'm just a little unsure of how strong the signal will be. I don't really know if the laptop just has a really good receiver, or a decent one while the PS3 and Wii have really bad receivers.

you would just sit the DD-WRT router in the same place as all your crap, then boost teh signal to 200mW and point the antennae at your bro's router and setup in bridge mode. done.

Yeah... I guess I'll lean towards DD-WRT. I did a bit more reading and found out it can do a repeater bridge kinda thing... Just what I need :D Thanks for your suggestions~

Now all that's left is to find a good and cheap router that supports it ^^

The Linksys WRT54G series routers are perfect for DD-WRT and aren't terribly expensive. I got mine for $45 or $50, IIRC.

I dropped by Walmart today... I saw a WRT54GS for 50 bucks! I wished I could spend less, but that seems to be a good price compared to online stores like mwave and Newegg. :D I think I'll go ahead and go for that one as soon as I get paid ^^

That WRT150N is pretty tempting but it's 20 bucks more... It's also the router that I'm currently using, but I don't wanna mess with it since I didn't pay for it :p

*Sigh* I dropped by Walmart again today and they're already sold out on their WRT54GS :(

On the bright side... They did have one Linksys Gaming adapter on clearance for 40 bucks ^^. I think I'll just go ahead and use that for now and hopefully they'll have more stock one day :p

Thanks again for all your suggestions
