:D I would like to get a New Graphics card but will not buy what is now availiable now. Just not up to par yet.

SO with all the knowledge and expertise out here can anyone enlighten me as to when will Nvidia or Ati come out with something worth buying.

And now with word out that XP will soon have DX10, as reported on one of the news releases which I go through many of and can not remember which one right now, there should be a rash of new cards comming out I hope. But I am much less informed than most now days since I now live in OHIO and not Santa Clair any more.

So some one inform me what's up.:eek:

You can always play the waiting game because something better is always around the corner. What are you wanting to use the new card for?

DX10 will never come out for XP. Some dinkus on the Inquirer or elsewhere is always claiming that it can be done, but it can't. DX10 relies on completely new device driver models and kernel features of Vista. In order to make it work, you'd basically have to rewrite large chunks of XP. All you'd end up with is a buggy, bastardized Vista clone, so what's the point? That's assuming a lone freelance programmer could even pull it off, which he or she can't.

As for the main part of your question, not knowing why you think the G80 cards are not "up to par," it's hard to tell you when something "good enough" might come along. Is it the cheaper midrange you're looking for, something along the lines of 7900GS/X1950Pro? If so, there is hope (unconfirmed) of good news in November.
 
I am looking for something for my 2-4 core xeons for games the 1950 xt dont cut it and I am willing to wait for a while.

They are trying to make DX10 work for linux also along with XP. DX10 may also die.:mad:

Just thought there might be some insiders around that knew when the next hint of something was comming out, other that the stuff comming out in Nov.:eek:


I want something better than 8900xtx and 2900xt stuff.

I don't remember any rumors past November so far. Maybe do a search on R700? That should be the next big thing for ATi.

DX10 isn't going anywhere, and it will never be ported back to xp (linux maybe, but that would be at least 5 years off).
 
Should ban waiting threads to be honest, no offense to the OP, but we've all seen them on numerous forums over the net. That's like me saying I will skip this new G90 core and wait for the GX(10) core because it will match up with DX10, get it, 10 = matched performance!!!

But...no, just get what you want to get when you want to get it. There's decent reasons both ways, your money in the end. I'm sticking with what I got because it's barely 5 months old and I think real games that use DX10 even halfway decently, if not better (Crysis tbh), will yield a much better performance on my hardware. All of that vs lame patch-games. I'll wait for an effective programmer's results myself.
 
I think you're going to have plenty of time to do your research if you're waiting for something better than the "8900xtx"

Next big thing should be the G92's (nVidia) scheduled for Q4 2007. (Haven't heard much on the ATI side.)

Depends on what you're looking for. But based on your comments stating that the current leading GPU's (i.e. 8800 Ultra) to be underpowered, then you are a serious power user who is only satisfied with bleeding edge tech.

Expect to shell out $700-$800 when the next gen stuff comes out or $1400-$1600 for SLI and that "might" make you happy.
 
Yes I guess Im serious about power. Like I said I am running duel quad cores now. 12 scsi hd's with a 2 channel raid array. etc. I was interested in info like the above post about the 92 core. ATI is still a mystery tho. I just need good graphics yet. My next computer wont be until next xmas when core speeds get higher and cores go up to 8.
