I will be using this system for Adobe LR3 and PS CS5 primarily. Additionally I will be using Flash Catalyst, Flash, and Adobe premeire Elements 8 for some light video editing (most from a small helemt cam, and some from a 7D - output would be web quality only). My proposed Budget was $1500 and I came in right near it.

Intel i7 930

Gigabyyte GA X58A UD3R LGA triple channel 6/GBs

XFX core edition GS250XZSL4 GeForece GTS 250 1GB video card

GSKILL 6GB 240pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800) timing of 8-8-8-21 (2 sets for 12GB total)

CORSAIR CMPSU 750TX 750W ATX 12V PSU

Case - either AZZA solano 1000 black or ENERMAX uber chakra ECA5001B

COOLER MASTER intel core i7 compatable 92mm cooler

OS Windows 7 64 bit

HD's leaning toward WD Caviar bk 640BG 32MB cache SATA 3.0 for the OS and a second for the scratch.

Then a WD Caviar bk 1TB 64MB cache SATA 6.0 for the image storage.

Open to thoughts, suggestions, and anything I might have overlooked or missed on any level. This will be my first build .

How much are you paying for the GTS250?
The 640GB WD Black does not perform as well as the 1TB Black (FAEX) or the WD Caviar Blue 500gb or the Samsung F3 500gb/1tb.

What cooler is that CM cooler? I wouldn't get a 92mm cooler... That PSU is quite overkill for the GPU/cpu you are using. Which G.skill set are you considering (like share the links)?

Make sure to get the combo deal to shave off $17:
$485 - Intel Core i7-930 CPU + Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R X58 ATX Motherboard Combo

Ditch the WD 640GB Black as it's significantly slower than this WD drive:
$56 - Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Don't bother with the black 500GB either. That's slower than the 640GB.

If you're not overclocking at all, just get three of this set of RAM to save $80:
$82 - G.Skill F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT 2 x 2GB DDR3 1333 RAM

Which Coolermaster HSF are you talking about? Case wise, neither cases are that good for the money IMO. The Azza is basically the Antec 900 which means it's just as cramped. The Enermax has little to no cable management features so it's gonna be hard to route cables and setup airflow correctly in that case. Other case recommendations:
$80 - Cooler Master RC-690-KKN1-GP ATX Case
$70 - Cooler Master CM690 II ATX Case
$90 - Cooler Master HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN1-GP ATX Case
$100 - Lian Li PC-7B Plus II ATX Case
$100 - Lian Li Lancool PC-K7B ATX Case
$90 - Cooler Master HAF 922M RC-922M-KKN1-GP ATX Case
$110 - Lian Li PC-E8B ATX Case
$110 - Lian Li PC-7FN ATX Case
$120 - Velocity Micro GX2-W Silver Classic Aluminum Case with Side Window
$120 - Thermaltake ElementS VK60001N2Z ATX Case
$130 - Cooler Master Storm Sniper ATX Case
$150 - Antec P183 ATX Case
$140 - Cooler Master HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP ATX Case
$170 - Cooler Master Cosmos S 1000 RC-1100-KSN1-GP Full Tower ATX Case
$180 - Cooler Master ATCS 840 RC-840-KKN1-GP Full Tower ATX Case
$180 - Lian Li PC-B25F ATX Case
$210 - Silverstone FT01-B ATX Case
$220 - Lian Li PC-A71F Black ATX Case
$240 - Lian Li PC-V1200A Plus II ATX Case
$300 - Corsair Obsidian Series 800D CC800DW Full Tower ATX Case
$330 - Silverstone Temjin SST-TJ07B Full Tower ATX Case

You're better off with the GTS 250 since Adobe makes extensive use of Nvidia's CUDA tech. Especially the Mecury Preview Engine.

However, the GPU acceleration feature is disabled by default in the lower-end NVIDIA cards. As a result, if one had not "hacked" a couple of files, the GTS 250 and other lower-end NVIDIA cards such as the GTX 260 or 275 would have performed no better than an AMD/ATi card because they would have all used the software-only mode.

True. But I'm betting that eventually, they'll learn about the hack.

Thanks people. Had heard about the hack...nice to have the option.

Can't use that RAM since it is dual ch and the mobo is triple chanell. Someone else also recommended the HD change to me and you validated the thought so that will be changed. Will look at those cases...thanks for the thoughts!

Dude, I did say buy THREE of those sets. That's six sticks of RAM which means you'll get triple channel. So again, three of those G.Skill RAM sets will provide triple channel. They don't need to be packaged in sets of three in order to get triple channel.

ahh, got it :).

ah dont get 3sets of this ram there is a difference between the performance on dual channel and trichannel ram dual channel usually wont run in try channel slots and when it does it is unstable.

Actually, on my i7-920 system even "triple-channel" memory kits can be unstable as well. In fact, I have found most dual-channel memory kits to be much more stable than the worst triple-channel kits. It's all about the ICs used and the quality control. (And poor quality control or the use of incompatible ICs can occur even with astronomically expensive memory modules.)

However, you are correct that buying three dual-channel kits increases the likelihood of getting modules with a mixture of ICs that don't play along well with one another (that is, modules from one kit use completely different ICs than those from another kit) - and that's where the stability issues occur. (This potential occurs even with two triple-channel kits of the same brand and model number.)

No, performance is usually similar amongst the kits, and dual channel kits are rarely unstable in tri-channel config. As long the kits' batch numbers are similar, then you should be fine (assuming the same ICs were used for all sticks in the batch). Simply increasing the number of sticks used in any system will lead to a higher chance of instability.

I've used 3x dual channel kits in multiple i7 builds, and they all work fine. Its just a matter of manually setting the timings and voltage, as is the case whenever you're using more than one kit (dual or tri channel). It also depends on the mobos, but stick with quality parts and low voltage RAM, and you'll be fine. Personally, I had two completely different tri-channel kits in my i7 system before I sold the other kit (which I regret since I only paid $80 for that 6GB kit, lol) -- and it worked fine; had to lower my OC a bit, but thats expected.

Hm, well if I have issues with the RAM I'll know where to turn for some help.

Back to the case thing. I looked at a bunch of those links. A few other recommended this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129058. Thoughts on that one? They have it local at Best buy which will save me a ton in shipping since I live in AK.

Don't bother with that case. Cramped yet costs just as much as roomier and far better quality cases. I can guarantee you that every case in the list I provided is far far better than the Antec 902.
