NEC P241W

Looks like an e-IPS, sRGB version of the PA241W. $750 for an e-IPS panel? No thanks. I'll just take a HP ZR24W if I wanted an e-IPS display.

You're assuming they'll be comparable based only on the panel type. NEC monitors tend to be higher quality in general. NEC's other e-IPS monitor, the NEC EA231WMi, is 8-bit (well, according to this thread, hopefully somebody else can confirm/deny that statement). Compare this to nearly all other e-IPS monitors which are 6-bit.

I'd wait for it to come out before making any judgements.

I'm not worried about the bit depth. It will be 8-bit for sure. It's the backlight bleeding, panel uniformity and tinting issues that are the problem with these e-IPS.

If you're going to spend $750 for an e-IPS, you might as well spend a bit more and get the real thing, the PA241W and then you have wide gamut if you need it in the future, and the best sRGB emulation around.

The extra $250 needed for PA241W is definitely not 'a bit more'.

And to be honest, not worth it for most people. One thing I've noticed with all the PA monitors is when using them in sRGB mode, they are hitting contrast numbers in the 500:1 range. All of them, even the 30". Not sure why.

My LCD2490WUXi2 and the original both don't have this problem. When calibrated via SpectraView II they lose some contrast but still stick in the 700:1 range. Same with my LCD2690WUXI

So if the P241W can avoid this issue, it should be good.

$250 more when buying a $750 item isnt THAT much more. I think it's easily worth the price difference. And if it is that big a deal, you can pickup a refurb PA241W for close to $750 if you look around. NEC refurbs are excellent in my experience and their customer service is amazing if you have problems.

The retail price for the P241 should be closer to $500 than $750, based on NEC's traditional MSRP.
