E231W-BK

My primary use would be gaming, its rated @ 5ms, but the viewing angle is 176x170 so it cant be a TN panel???

Any info on this display, I found them for $200, and might grab two.

Based on all the info I could find, there's nothing supporting that it's an IPS panel. However, some random Russian sites seem to think it's a TN. For the price I'm betting on TN.

Could still be a good display, though.

EDIT: I guess it's not that much less than the Dell U2311H, so maybe it is an IPS panel. Would like to see some decent reviews on it, though.

The viewing angle specs say 160/170. That combined with 5 ms means it's TN without overdrive.

It's an IPS screen. Amazon has them routinely at $265 free shipping.
The IPS screen is EA231WMi, not E231W.

There is only oNe 5 ms IPS and it has not been made in 4 years. It's TN.

Edit: wow I just noticed reading NEC's site you linked they go all phony marketing with quadbillion dynamic contrast ratios and overly generous viewing angles etc..when did NEC become Samsung? For shame.

My apologies. I read that as EA231.... funny how the mind tricks you like that.

It isn't just Samsung who inflate figures in the monitor world. It's practically every manufacturer of consumer-grade monitors - and that includes some of NEC's models. If everyone else is doing it you don't want to be left behind. ;)

Very true. Only business. I just save special blame for Samsung because I felt they got the inflatable ball rolling years ago.:)

They make damn good HDD tho, maybe I should give it a rest. That $1200 was wasted so long ago...
