hello there
i have a sandigital towerraid with about 16tb of storage, i used to save my movie library in it but then discovered VPN and netflix so its pretty much free space now
i started a project to digitilize my family photo and video library and did that with tb's to spare
now i want a good way to store the new media into the server, for me its easy, but for non tech'y sisters its hard to do it (specially since each one of them lives in a different house)
and i want them to have their privacy with the stuff they store, i thought i should just setup 3 VM's in my server ( 16gb ram, i5 3rd gen quad, 24/7 on) and install a storage oriented OS for them to use
so i thought i should ask the experts, whats the best OS to install into the VM's to allow easy remote uploads/access/view ? or should i just go with dumbded down linux distru
and is how does VM in general handle the esata connected storage power ? will still go idle when not being used ? will it read SMART ?
