I have a brand new rig built using a Gigabyte X48T-DQ6 and Q9450. Currently I have only a 2x2 12V power connector plugged into the board because according to the manual a 2x4 connector is only required for extreme edition cpus.

However, given that quad cores draw more power should I use a a 2x4 connector instead?

I take it your PSU doesn't have an 8-pin for the CPU?

If the PC posts with the 4-pin, go ahead and use the 4-pin.

No it does have an 8 pin for the CPU, like I said, the only reason I didn't use it is because of that statement in the manual.

Use it then. yes your PC will work with just the 4Pin. But if you already have the 8Pin connector, might as well use it.

i had that concern when i got my new board and i only had a 4pin on my psu. it worked fine though.
Then i got my current PSU and i put in the 8 pin, and its also worked fine since.
