MySpace Asked For Sex Offender Data

UrielDagda: All the stuff on Tv makes me not want to turn it on sometimes.
Law&Order SVU on multiple channels, Nancy Grace(thank god that channel just got dropped where I live) "to catch" and all the other programs that just make me so tense I feel like I will turn into a black hole one day.

BTWY: how do you do the quote thing??

There is a button that says "Quote" on the lower right side.

Ugh, all that stuff is why I dropped expanded basic.. I stick with HBO and Showtime series most of the time.. Law & Order SVU always made me throw a pen or pencil at the TV. Nancy Grace is yet another self righteous bitch who makes money off of all the salacious material she can get her grubby mitts on.. Personally if Crapcast wouldn't charge me extra for internet, I would probably just dump cable altogether.

I can understand the black hole thing.. I keep to myself so much it probably isn't healthy, and sometimes feels like I am not even on the same plane of existence as anybody else. :D

I always find if I start feeling too detached, looking around the net and finding something to debate about until I get tossed from a site. Especially on this kind of topic, it can be rather funny to find some of the "kill! kill! kill!" crowd and throw some logic plutonium into their discussion and watch the resulting nuclear explosion of verbiage. :p

The people who hang around [H] though are usually a bit more level headed, which I like.. They tend to only explode if I insult thier favorite graphics solution provider. :)

I am pretty surprised [H} didn't post the follow up story about this, I believe they deleted a bunch of profiles over it and refused to give over names so far.

And that brings up ANOTHER problem since the only way they can do that is to match names, we get one more (TSA) list with plenty of people with the same name and/or DOB
getting kicked off.
Those CM that want to stay just have to lie about their name and use a free E-mail account.
Complete BS by the feds as usual

Yep, it will just be another mess that leads to nothing, while they take thier eye off the ball and dodge the real issue .. I was lamenting this afternoon that the US has just officially gone completely insane. They are fighting this like they fought the War on Drugs and War on Terror and, hell, the War on Obesity.. That's really the one that represents this problem so well.. Ever since I was a young kid, there have been all the diet aids and worry about weight.. The more we worry, the fatter we get..

For some reason this country just keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over thinking it will wind up with a different result.. It's just insane. We need to stop fighting things using "Christian morals" and start using common sense. Morals are a good foundation but make for very unstable framework. Absolutism staunch polarity will be the death of us all one day.

did read it all but

1. MySpace doesnt ask for real names / addresses
2. MySpace doent ask for any information to actually identify a person

What are they going to do, look through all of the images? Get Ip's address and work with ISP's to find the homes?

read thes rest, points covered, ignore above

the sex offender system is FUBARd - i could be listed as a sex offender for bumping into a women and hitting her ass, but she calls assult, and BAM i am on the list... ya, thas fair for me now having that label all my life and me basically being screwed for anything.

How about if the boy that is 17 and the girl is 16. They start a relationship, that turns sexual..the boy turns 18, and her parents find out, or the girl is pissed off at the boyfreind and crys 'rape' cause she knows she is jail bait now that he is 18.

In some states, just for being 1 day over 18 and the girl 1 day under 18 is technically a form of sexual indecency with a child. Crazy huh.

This kind of stuff actually happens here in Texas resulting in young men labeled a sex offenders, and later have trouble getting jobs, and harrassed the rest of their life cause of the 'letter of the law'.

Here's a few things that I'm not sure about:

Anyone know of a law that states websites/businesses are required to request information regarding whether someone is a convincted sex offender prior to registering?

Anyone know of a law that states websites/businesses are required to turn over sex offender information to the government based on the possibility that they may offend again?

Anyone know of a law that states websites/businesses are required to turn over all member information to the government because some might be sex offenders?

Anyone have statistics of how many sex offenders are on MySpace that are not simply estimates based on the number of people registered on MySpace in relation to the number of convicted sex offenders in the US in relation to the number of people in the US?

No? How about these, then:
Anyone know of a law that states websites/businesses are required to request information regarding whether someone is a convicted arsonist? Seriously, they could find out where your live and burn your house down for kicks.

Anyone know of a law that states websites/businesses are required to turn over thieves information to the government based on the possibility that they may steal again? I'm not sure, but I would guess that theft has a pretty high rate of recidivism and thieves are likely to steal something from a house they see on myspace.

Anyone know of a law that states websites/businesses are required to turn over all member information to the government because some might be murderers? Really, people on MySpace are at an extremely high risk of being killed because some of them might already be murderers.

Anyone have statistics of how many sex black or hispanic people are on MySpace that are not simply estimates based on the number of people registered on MySpace in relation to the number of convicted sex offenders in the US in relation to the number of people in the US? I'm pretty sure this should be one since there's a hgiher percentage of black and hispanic people in jail than white people based on population estimates.

This is the stupidest fucking argument I've ever seen taken place. Everyone that is agreeing to this is just opening the door to yet another government overextension trampling on everyone's rights. Just because parents are morons and their kid goes on MySpace and agrees to meet "Johnny, male, 16, hawt abs," who later turns on to be "Bill, male, 42, bends you over for a surprise," means that the government can just assume that every sex offender on MySpace is going to do that? Let alone, assume that MySpace is a hunting ground for sex offenders?

We don't have proof? Fuck proof. We don't need proof because nobody likes sex offenders.

Well, last I checked, a shitton of people didn't and still don't like the following types of people: blacks, hispanics, japanese, jews, muslims, christians, chinese, mormons, and the french. Of course, there's more, but it's probably just easier to assume all people that have done something illegal before or are hated enough to get the majority on the side saying 'fuck proof.' Granted, if the system were set up properly in the first place (as others have mentioned), the people who actually are deserving of punishment would never be out of jail.

That or everyone can just keep nodding along in agreement because it's something they agree with.

It's such a political tinderbox, hell it even affects lawmakers.. In the House and Senate you will get the occasional bill with portk or some crap in it that nobody would ever vote for , that also sex offender riders.. Then politicians will basically use a threat that if it wasn't voted for, those that didn't would be found to be soft on sex offenders in the next election.

It has just taken on a life of it's own... People don't want to be accused of being soft on sex offenders, so they just go along with it, even if all our rights go down the toilet. The only way that will ever change is if people come to thier senses as a majority and say, hey, I think we are headed down the wrong road here.

It's sad how, while we don't want to see sex offences against children, how much this country doesn't mind thier children being used as political pawns. I, for one, am watching with baited breath to see how draconian the laws have to become before they start having a reverse effect and start getting children killed in the crossfire. I just pray it really doesn't end up coming to that.

Isn't it strange that it seems those that have gone through it, and have the perspective on it are ignored while the camera hogs get all the time and words

I have come to the conclusion that is because logical thought and perspective doesn't make money.. It's all entertainment-- sex and salaciousness is what sells. That is just one of the major effects of the media becoming for-profit instead of for the truth.. Investors, advertisers and profits become more important. This just happens to be just a tiny part of the overall problem with society today. The Geraldo and Jerry Springer effect, sensationalism and vulgarity.

That's not to say I am against entertainment-- I love raw, uncensored and controversial entertainment! But entertainment should be entertainment, news should just be news. Meshing the two together is just obscene. News just becomes something to further an agenda, rather than to inform. To encite an act instead of encourage critical thinking. It is too visceral. And trying to fight it is like trying to smash an enormous iron door down with a rubber mallet sometimes.
