I haven't upgraded anything major in my system for quite a while, besides hard drives and such. Now that I'm playing Warhammer Online, I'm realizing the need for an upgrade somewhere. Here's my current system:
DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ @ 2.64 GHz
BFG GeForce 7900 GT 256MB
2 GB OCZ Platinum PC3200 SDRAM
24" Monitor @ 1920x1200
The main issue I'm experiencing with Warhammer is lagging whenever a large amount of characters are on screen that need to load. An example is turning the corner to face a city, or turning around 180 degrees and needing to load everything behind me. I want to fix this issue.
I realize running the game at my monitor's 1920x1200 resolution is a strain, but there's no choice there.
Since I don't have the money to completely upgrade my system, I need to choose the best possible single upgrade. My RAM would be great for gaming if it were 4 GB... but the problem is if I upgrade that, it will be useless as soon as I replace my motherboard, since it only supports 182-pin DDR SDRAM.
Now, if I upgrade my video card, I can definitely use that once I build a new system with a new motherboard. I'm looking at a card such as:
XFX PVT84JYAJG GeForce 8600 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16
or EVGA 640-P2-N829-AR GeForce 8800GTS SSC 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 (but I would have to upgrade my 550W power supply for this I think...)
In my situation, would a video card upgrade me worthwhile, especially with increased video memory... or RAM, or I need more than either of these to get my in good shape? Thanks for any help
