Let me give you the quick version:

Bought and assembled a Shutttle XP38Pro 2 SFF for my 9-year old. It died after 7 days. I returned it. Shuttle, 4GB Ram, 7800GTX, 2.4 Core 2 Duo. 640GB hard drive. Around $375ish

Bought enough parts from Frys a week later and assembled a PC for him. It didn't work. I was not happy. Saved a little bit. total around $350ish. Since it didn't work, I returned it to Frys.

Went to outlet.dell.com and bought a 537S slimline PC with Vista Home Premium 64Bit, 4GB Ram, a DVD RW, 320GB HD, and a dual core 2.5 Ghz Pentium for only 289 with free shipping. I got it in 2 days. It has a 1year warranty and they come to my house if it breaks down. I will always build my PCs, but everyone else gets Dell from now on. LOL :p too much of a headache when things don't go your way.

Yeah... they're pretty rediculously well priced nowadays. (got my HP Slimline for about 100USD, though it was broken, it was covered by a special warranty).
