Well thanks for those of you following this miniture worklog.. It's more or less a "what you can do" with any metal computer case worklog. Nothing super fancy.. No outrageous overclocks.. Just a way to snaz up your computer case. Let's start with the basics.. Here, we have a "stock" Coolermaster Centurion 5 case (external and internal)..

Nothing really fancy. The basic layout is "OK" but there is really nothing notable here. Just your average basic case.. Blah blah blah..

My son saw my "Dude, I've got a Dell" worklog and has watched me transform that old Dell into my HTPC. He was bitten by the "brightly colored computer bug" ..LOL. He wanted his computer the same color as my old motorcycle.. BLACK AND BRIGHT ORANGE! Well, his computer has been build for awhile now so I thought I would freshen his build up by having a few parts powder coated and sleeving his wires to match the case.. I then bought him (4) new AC Ryan UV reactive LED fans (same fans I used on my HTPC). At only 28.95 dB and 77cfm each, I'm really happy with them.

AHHHH! My poor eyes... Is it really that orange in real life? I'm not sure I could sleep in the same room as that case, it'd be too bright. hehe Hope your sun (nyuk nyuk) likes it.

Oh yes.. It's SUPER bright.. Did I mention that it's sooooo bright, that I have to use welder's goggles just to put the darn thing together.. LMAO!

I agree... MY PRECIOUS EYES :p looks great though... i wish my dad built me a pc like that when i was a little kid:confused:

you went to the extent of powdercoat? there are places you can do that with such a insignificant quantity like a single case? i thought u needed to have bulk metal before any powdercoaters went near u... maybe im wrong..

Oh no.. The "big commerial" powder coating businesses maybe, but I use a local place and most of his work is odds and ends type stuff.. They do some commerial stuff but that is NOT the majority of their business. There are people from all over the USA that send my powder coater stuff to powder coat.. Most of that stuff is little (as you can imagine, the shipping would be rediculous on the heavy stuff). He gets A LOT of business from peeps that want their RIMS, bycycle frames, misc car parts, motorcycle parts, etc done.. Our local Harley Davidsion motorcycle shops send him stuff ALL the time! I think I am one of the VERY few that have ever brought him computer cases.. LOL.

first person i've heard of that has powder coated their case :p ;)

i thought that with the expense of these machines (the powdercoat not pc).. i figured a 'commercial' powdercoater was all there was... :D

PLEAAAAAAAAAAAASE, adopt me!!!! That is going to be one happy kid when this is done. Does your powdercoater have a website?

Hahaha.. Yeah.. Now if he could just keep ALL of his grades up.. LOL. The place that I use is located in Kennedale, Texas. It's about 1/2 mile outside of the city limits of Fort Worth (about 12 minutes from my house..lol).

The guy who owns the place is named Joe. Very nice guy! Won't do you wrong.. He was almost a Fort Worth Police Officer but at the last minute, decided to be a business owner in lieu of Public Service.. That was obviously the RIGHT choice! ..LOL! Here is his website: http://www.topkoat.net/

Wow, $225 for a street bike frame, that is nice. One company out here is charging that much to do road racing bike frames ($225 for a powdercoated Huffy, WTF)!

I dont know about the orange inside but the orange outside makes me want to do that to my Centurion 5. Cant wait to see the final product.

Color is simply up to the imagination.. I have done Silver, Black, Blue, this orange one and just finished my GREEN HTPC last night!

Wow, with everything put back together on your HTPC it is actually pretty subtle minus the lights when you look at it from a distance. Would fit right in sitting next to a video game system that is impressive! So are you doing something similar with your son's case?

hey man, i love the color and those fans. but i was wandering: how did you remove the Hard drive locking devices on your centurion?

Thanks for the compliment. I agree, it's actually quite subtle.. It is going to be a tricky little addition to my Home Theater.. If anything, it makes for a good coversation piece for those who have never seen anything like this before.. As for my son's case, his is going to be pretty much stock.. Just perked up a little with some color.. I am actually waiting on EVGA at the moment. I RMA'd his bad 650i ultra and 7800GTX but EVGA said that they have a ZERO quanity on the 7800GTX and the 650i ultra is on backorder. They said they should get some 650i motherboards in next week but they might have to substiture an 8600 or 8800 (320mb) for my 7800GTX..

Glad you like em.. I was wondering when someone was going to figure out that I "deleted" the hard drive cages from his case..hahaha. VERY GOOD EYE! The cage is actually held in place by several rivets. I had to drill those rivets out and viola.. cage is gone. Now that I had the entire case powder coated, it looks perfect.

HA HA, that is a pretty sweet deal. Dad tricks out the interior eye candy quality and is able to increase the onscreen eye candy quality as well. My dad wouldn't even buy me the N64 jumper pack for Zelda (granted at the time I stationed was in Germany, married, and more than capable of buying it for myself)

so you just drilled out the little rivets that are holding the little locking devices on?

Si. If you drill out the rivets, there's no connection holding the drive bay's on. :D

Oh I see what you are saying.. the tooless slides.. Those are not held in place with rivets. Those are just clipped in there.. So I just rotated the clips out. Was actually quite easy.

I started reassembling the case.. This is how far I've gotten.. LOL, I even took the metal cage off of his card reader and had that powder coated as well...

Wow, that is one bright orange. Looks great officemartinez! I really like the CM C5. My wife's is an all blue (two tone) CM C5 which I call Tropic Blue. I really was impressed with the case when doing the build. I will be lurking here to see how this one turns out. Love the work so far.

jesus christ! those are some bright cases! very nice paint! nice and smooth!
how about a bright yellow case next time?:p

Wow, i this is great!!!

I do like the orange better then the green.
Great job. keep up the good work!

I'm really digging the orange paint job!

Thanks for the compliment.. The orange is actually not a paint but rather a process called powder coating. VERY durable.. It will not crack, chip or peel like paint will.

all that needs is a SIM reader and ur all set :D

LOL.. I wish it had a SIM card reader for my cell phone!!!!!!

Awesome! These are actually neat little cases.. I understand that a little mod here and there will make them more effecient but overall, they are great, inexpensive cases!

I've already done yellow.. Corvette Yellow to be exact.. I had my Corvette ZR1 Rims powder coated.. (front rims are 17" x 9 1/2" and the rear rims are 17" x 11")

DSCN9485.jpg

is the rest of the corvette yellow to go with those rims?

btw, everything, rims included, looks awesome! i wish i had a local powdercoater who was willing to do small things...

Thanks! The rims will be mounted on my 1995 Pontiac Formula. The stock LT1 motor was yanked out and I basically had it built to a 355cid ZZ4 / LT4 Hybrid engine.. Should be good for 420-430 HP.. I will also be powder coating my 20 lbs Nitrous Bottle.. it's a 200 HP shot wet nitrous setup..

Also, my wife has expressed an interest in having me pimp out her Thermaltake Shark case.. I will hit it with some epoxy and redesign the interior.. She really liked the the black paint and wants her case to quasi resemble her pink and dark grey motorcycle.. So, after a little talk, she settled on black and pink.. Give me 3 weeks or so.. After I finish my son's case, I will start in on her computer case.. Whoah is me.. I opened my mouth about tricking out a computer a little bit and the next thing I know, everybody and their second born child is knocking on my door to pimp out their rig.. LMFAO! I guess it's a good compliment.. If they didn't like the work, they wouldn't ask me to fix their stuff up.. (well, that's the way I look at it..hahaha).

Need more updates. :p

I ran into a snag.. I was trying to RMA my EVGA 7800GTX and EVGA 650i Ultra motherboard and EVGA has been draggin their feet. Their RMA process is a little screwy when doing the advanced RMA (EAR). So, I can't install anything until I get those parts in.. (sigh).
