I just joined the ranks and bought this 23 inch LCD monitor last night at Fry's. This screen is so massive compared to my 19 inch CRT display. Man, this is so badass! I have so much real estate now. I love the touch screen buttons and that glowing SONY logo is so awesome. This is my very first LCD monitor display so any tips (such as disabling V-Sync) will be welcomed :) .

The bad part:
There are a few dead pixels, I counted maybe 5-7, but it doesn't really bother me. I can hardly tell they're there. only visible when my screen is complete black or you search for it and get up close. Other than that, It looks flawless (to me :D). Oh yeah, no signs of backlight bleeding, screen door effect, or ghosting problems (as far as I can tell). From where I can see, it's damn near perfect, lol!

Anyway, I am still getting used to it and trying to customize it according to what I think looks good. I will be cleaning up my workspace, wires, changing my case, keyboard, speakers, etc. in a few weeks. So far so good, I LOVE this monitor :) !

Sorry for boring you guys, here are the pics:
( I apologize if the pics don't look right, it's pretty hard to capture LCD images. Also, I just snapped these photos last night and today, didn't bother to get artsy fartsy... okay here goes)

If you guys want any more pics, I can probably take more once I truly fix my workspace up. Enjoy guys!

Orgeon Trail on a 23" LCD - I love it :D. Sure beats the days of playing it on a 14" CRT I'd imagine - the river crossings must looker wider than ever :) Looks gorgeous, enjoy!

Man, where in the world did you get Oregon Trail? Oh how I miss those days.

How much was that beast? I purchased one in Jan from Frys for like $2200 and heard Dell was coming out with the 24 inch so I took it back.

The one I owned was perfect. No dead pixels or stuck pixels and perfect backlighting. My only complaint was it was a little dark and I could never get the colors calibrated to my taste. Most of my problem was with skin tones on pictuers had this blotchy red look to them. Had it not been for the price I may have kept it and tried to work out the bugs but I decided to wait for the dell.

Overall, the Sony p234 monitor is beautiful and looks good. I really did miss mine when I went back to my Dell 2001fp.

I bought it for $1699.99 (cheaper than Circuit City and Best Buy by $100). The total was about $1850 +/-. It's expensive but well worth it, imo :) !

Ramuman & Navicaph: Nostalgic ain't it? :D I'm glad people still remember this game. I remember playing it in elementary school using those thin floppies (I also remember, Where In The World is Carmen San Diego, lol!)

Ramuman: I always loved risking the wagon by attempting to cross a river, any river lol! I also enjoyed Hunting and Bartering, lol! I also got a kick when one of my "family members" got injured, ( "mary" got a broken arm, etc. lol!) .The good ole' days!

Navicaph: Search for it in Kazaa or Bit Torrent sites :p ! You will not regret it.

I know you just got your monitor and everything.. (i know the feeling.. I just got the dell) ... I would personally take it back because of the dead pixels.. it's easier since you got it at Fry's and you can just go there.. It's worth it in the long run.. just a little time off your hands.

heck tho.. you could get almost 2 2405FPW's come to think about it. Does that thing have extra inputs and does it have component video?

I am diggin the stand tho..

How much are the Dells 2405FPWs, around $800? Damn, are you serious? The reason I went with this Sony is because, I have always wanted this one and had my eye dead set on it.

Does your Dell have any dead pixels? What happens to dead pixels in the long run anyways? Anybody know? I really don't notice it, you have to be upclose to see it. Thanks for looking out though :) . I will think about it, I have about 15 days to refund/ exchange it, so... until then.

About the inputs, it has 2 VGA ports (HD15 or something) and one DVI port and a couple of audio inputs. I don't think it has component inputs though, but that's okay because I have a TV tuner for that, this is strictly used as my monitor :) .

ps: feel free to post your newly acquired LCD display man. I am always up to seeing other people's tech stuff/ gizmos :) !

Yeah.. people are picking them up for like $850 for a while.. I am sure they will go back to that.. heck you can still get it for $925. I know you use it for just the computer... but you "could" use it for a whole lot more with all the inputs. I have my xbox in hd going over component video, here's the thread: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=882070, i have the svideo coming from the replay tv, svhs through composite and I got another computer hooked up to the vga and my main computer hooked through my dvi... and I just switch between them with the input buttons.. and I can even use PIP to watch tv in a window. You can think about it this way.. you'll be basically getting a extra tv for the bedroom too.

It also has usb ports and media reader.. (I don't really use it), and it can rotate. Think about it this way.. for the extra 600+ that you save.. get yourself a new cpu / motherboard, or top of the line x850xt pe or something.. you spent the same $$$$ but come out way ahead. Plus you are paying the "sony tax".. (they usually overcharge a little). This monitor is the first decent 24" to hit street prices under a g with high res.

Oh.. I have no dead pixels and even backlighting.. unlike my 2005 I got a while back.

Here is the spread minus my second computer..

oh.. one more thing... you get an extra inch.. ;)

Oh yeah, I remember seeing your setup on the LCD and Casemodding gallery threads. Nice setup by the way.

Anyway, I will think long and hard about this, I really love this monitor and it is my number one choice out of all the widescreens that I have seen. Also, I hate buying things and having to wait :( ! Then what happens if there are more dead pixels on the Dell, then I would have to re-ship it back to them... I hate hassels!

Thanks for the heads up though. Maybe I can persuade my brother to get the Dell :p , He might like it especially for the price.... That is a bargain....

Samsung (who makes the panel) has a zero dead pixel policy on their branded monitors.. I am sure they use the same technology to make their newer panels.. which is why there are a lot fewer people complaining about dead pixels compared to the 2005. Just FYI if he is on the fence because of dead pixels.. but since you already have 6-7.. you can't really lose. just trying to look out for a fellow [H]ocper. :p

I appreciate it man.... It's good to know about the dead pixel policy. Thank again bro! :)
