For that kind of money, get an SSD to go with it (and replace the Velociraptor).

A $300 case and a $300 power supply? Really?

The $300 velociraptor disn't help either.

I'd rather game on my ~$950 rig in sig. (I shop around for sales as well as buy used sometimes).

I hope you didn't just waste $4k on all of that, but good luck with the build either way.

$4,000 on that? I was expecting a multi gpu three way monitor gaming monster. Oh well.

$4000 for that?

^This.

What is the money going on, is there a solid gold case I didn't see?

You should have posted here before you bought that shit, you could have had a system twice as fast for half the cash. Why do you need 1250W with one video card? velociraptors are outdated technology a 600gb one is pointless anyway.

Welcome to the forum.

to clear things up a bit... perhaps i spend ONLY $3,000

the headphones were $300 and $500 for the speakers and sub

most expensive parts..

gpu - $530
mobo - $350
raptor - $250 (didnt go with ssd because i needed size.. i didnt want to change every program install to another hard drive)
case - $300
2500k - $230 give or take i dont remember
about $300 for the psu... (750w corsair runs around $200)
6tb caviar black for (nothing illegal) - $500

so to clarify... $3000 not $4k

FYI, WD caviar black doesn't work in RAID, also velociraptor is still kind of a waste, the caviar black are fast HD's. You get an SSD just to put your OS on really and maybe games and other software, you don't need much more than 120gb,
But makes more sense if you only spent $3000.

Also you don't really need a soundcard if you have a decent mobo (which you do) with digital output either SPDIF or optical, if you are connecting to a receiver then surround system there is basically no difference. If you have the cash later since you spent so much on a PSU and motherboard with 2 full PCI-e lanes you will should add another GPU and 2 other monitors down the line?

i already have 260gb used on my velociraptor and soon to be more.. but i figured id wait for higher capacity ssd/lower price

and no.. im not trying to run raid

Are the 3x cd/dvd drives because you hate swapping game disks?

Just trying to figure out why you'd want so many

3 drives because for $20 each...wth lol

idk about the mobo sound card... i want my sound to be top quality when gaming. ALMOST got the asus xonar stx but people were saying that its not intended for gaming that it was more music type stuff so my next choice was the forte.. my speakers are 2.1 and absolute beast. you feel like you are at war!!!

if my mobo had more pci e slots id upgrade to a 2nd card but id be sacrificing the sound card.. later ill just buy a new one (gtx 680/690) and sell this one.

one monitor is my fav... more monitors=lower fps and movies only go to 1080 so all your doing is stretching

I've got an Maudio 5.1 24 bit 192khz soundcard, which is a pretty decent soundcard. I literally can hear no difference between that and my Mobo's audio when it is connected to the receiver through digital... certainly worth experimenting with, if you can hear a difference then that's great, I'm all about getting the best sound out of my system. If you have powered speakers connected directly to your PC and are not being routed through receiver maybe the soundcard will affect sound, don't really know about that one.

That's a waste even at $3600.

With that being said, you don't have to "change" the location software is installed each time you install it, you can map the program files directories to a different drive. So windows thinks its C:program Files, but in reality it's D:Whatever thus is seamless to you and Windows.

Spending money on Caviar black drives are a waste when you can get the Samsung F3 drive for $20 cheaper in most cases and it's just as fast.

That case is not at all worth the money, when roomier, better air flowing with better cable management cases cost nearly half as much.

You aren't going to get 12GB of RAM with 2GB sticks, when the motherboard you selected only has 4 DIMMs. Therefore you are limited to only 8Gb total with no room to add more RAM later without replacing what you already bought.

6990 is not worth the money, even for triple display setups. Get two 6950s or if you really wanna splurge, get CF 6970s assuming you wont be using anything that's takes advantage for CUDA.

Due to the above reasons, it's doubtful you even need a 2600k, when the 2500k will do everything you'll most likely be using the system for just as fast.

Unless you need the quietest system possible and/or want to go for some semi extreme over clocks, the H100 is a waste of money as well when a tower cpu cooler will net similar results and cost half or more less.

Just because you have multiple monitors doesn't mean the picture needs to stretch between them all when watching a movie. I have dual monitors and I love being able to watch TV (TV Tuner card, but watching blurays is possible too) on one of them while I browse/work on the other display. Once I get a third display, gaming will be across all three.

No need to slap the man in the face after the fact.

Guys, first and only warning to everyone who posts in this thread: Do Not ThreadCrap.

The OP has bought the PC. No need to further insult the man.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be disrespectful to anyone.

That's a waste even at $3600.

^ Wasn't trying to be economical, I was seeing what $4k would net in terms of hardware, trying to understand how someone can spend $4k and not get all that much to show for it. (understand now since $1k went on sound equipment).
If I was building a gaming rig based on bang for buck then it would be the same one in my sig

note to self... next time i post my specs - do not include price tag ;)

Ya....Tough crowd. :D

If its your dream machine don't let them get to you. Sometimes money doesn't matter.
Hell I spent $300 on a discontinued used case before just cause I wanted it. And I will probably never use it since have 4 of them.
