Plain and simple, I could not mount it. The bracket that goes over the cooler base was impossible for me to screw down because if you screw down one side, it became like a sea-saw and no amount of force could get the other side down for screwing. I did manage to get it screwed on ONCE, but not properly, and idle temps were into 50-60c (keep in mind I was also using crappy thermal paste.)

Facts about the megahalems:

1) You will need to remove your motherboard from the case each and every time you switch your cpu, etc. Why? Because there is no way you will be able to get enough force screwing on the top bracket while it is inside the case.

2) Fan brackets don't hold the fan very securely, alternative methods will be needed to secure it better.


I will be sending the megahalems to silent-circuit tomorrow and maybe he'll have better luck installing it. Overall, I can't recommend them based on my experience trying to mount it. This is the first HSF i've come across that I could not get to install properly. I'm back to using my v8.
 
were you completely screwing down one side before the other.. best way to put it on with the bolt through bracket.. screw down the left top corner.. then the right bottom corner.. but not completely.. then do the other 2.. should be able to get it on no problem that way..

Maybe I didn't explain myself well enough. I'm not talking about the backplate.

I initially looked at the mount mechanism on these coolers and I thought that someone has finally got it right. I was even looking around to see if I could buy just the mounting kit by itself.

Does the cross bar flex at all or is it rigid? Is it that the bolts aren't long enough and the springs don't compress very well?
 
Are the double threaded bolts in correctly? It sounds like one side is higher than the other on the side mounts.

The fans brackets are the same as the TRUE's...nice aren't they? :D
 
I've never had an issue with Thermalright's fan brackets.

What are you people doing with your machines? Running marathons with them strapped to your back?

OP, you need to get 1 screw started, then cross over and start the screw on the opposite side. Get them all started before tightening them down.
 
I'll take a difficult to install firmly clamped Megahelem over a loosely fitting easy to install TRUE any day! Want to trade? Guarantee you won't have any trouble installing my TRUE 120!
 
I just use rubber bands for my fans cuz i hate those brakets. Only time will tell how long those rubber bands last :D
