Hey guys.. I'll start off with a bit about myself, I'm javi, I live in Florida, Miami. I've always lovedd gaming, but was very limited to do so. I do own an xbox360 where I play cod and bf3, however, it's not the same. I played bf2 in my pc 1/2 years and ago and I lovedd it. But then bf3 came out and I had the idea of building a new pc. Reason I hadn't built one before was because I'm sure my dad wouldnt have given me $500-600 cash to mess around building a pc. I am now 18, so I'm good there =p. Anyyway i will answer the 10 questions

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
I will be gaming, specifically bf3, gta4, wow, and simple mmo's that don't really require much of a goodd pc. Photoshop aswell, but that you can do with pretty much anything. Web browsing too I guess.

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
I'd say it would be around 500-600, if the difference to having a much better pc requires me to spend 700, I will. I start working the summer june10th so I'll be able to make some money.

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
U.S, Florida, Miami

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
I need.. Case, power supply, motherboard, CPU, memory ram, video card, storage (maybe a cheap ssd?) and I was looking to see if i could possibly get an optical drive with blue ray? if it's too expensive then nah..

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Well, I have 2 computers, one is a desktop and this one I'm using now is an hp touchscreen so it's not useful. As for the desktop, I'm will to take out and use anything that will be useful for the build. I own an asus dual-core cpu e5300 @2.60GHz, 4gb ram, 64-bit, win7 ultimate, 600gb hard drive, has an nvidia geforce 9500 gt, this allows me to play mmos like wow, and other fun games but i doubt it would handle anything else. everything else is stock pretty much, the system model is CM5570.

6) Will you be overclocking?
I'd like to if possible, but I doubt it with this budget, maybe I'm wrong?

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
I have a 19 inch I think, hd display getaway, but I will be selling for $50 to a friend I think.. For now I could use my tv, it's a 32 inch lcd lg, that's plugged in my desktop pc.

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Well, right now I only have about 200 dollars. Hopefully by june 10th I'd have 300 or so.. Then in 2 more weeks I could get the required 700$. I'm also looking to sell this hp touchsmart, for around 400$, if I do manage to sell it, I will increase budget to 800 perhaps. Or just buy accesories for the pc, like speakers, monitor, etc.

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
I don't really know what most of that means, I just would like to play bf3 not on ultra, but atleast high.. if not, then medium. Whatever I can get for the $600 budget.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yeah I do own a license, ultimate, 64bit. No worries there.

That's pretty much it, for casing, I'd like a case with clear sidepanel to admire my first work lol. And some led lights but that's later. Ahm, so yeahh that's pretty much it. I wanted to get the hdd 600gb and put it to install programs and stuff, and then a cheap sdd to install bf3, gta4 and play there? I'm a noob at this kind of stuff so yeah =/.
If there's any more information you might need, just ask!, thank youu very much. I will name the first build after this forum, with stickers and everything :p.
edit: I was also willing to spend the current money I have now and get started with all this. I'd to buy case and whatever else I can buy.

Oh I forgot, I'd like to add that, I go for intel all the way.
and this card looks really nice! what do u guys think?

More than likely not possible.

Ok, you're planning the build too soon then. Our recommendations tend to change monthly and sometimes even weekly. Not to mention that there's always a chance that you may not get the required amount in the right time. So come back when A) you have all the money you can set aside for the PC and B) when you're 1-2 weeks away from buying the PC.

Ok red flags here:
1) Did that Windows 7 license come with the PC itself?
2) If no, is it a retail or OEM key?

Not a good card at all. You're better off with the AMD HD 7770 in that price range.

I'm not sure if your budget allows for a good windowed case.

It's a 1080p

1) No
I plan on using the same hard drive so.. No installation required i guess?

how about the GeForce GTX 560 SE?
also, I have 3 rams of 2gb each. thats 6, so no need to buy right?
I was thinking.. With the money I have, i buy the case atleast.. I disambled most of my desktop already, so maybe i can just use the parts until i get new one?

It's a 1080p
OK that changes a few things. That's a high resolution so I'd recommend $700 minimum for a new gaming PC

You didn't answer my question: f no, is it a retail or OEM key?
how about the GeForce GTX 560 SE?
There's literally no proper review of it. As such, I can't recommend it since there's no info about how it performs.

Unless that RAM is DDR3 and is rated at 1.5V, you will need to buy new RAM.

No. Again, we don't know how much money you'll actually have for the PC. As such, we don't how your case purchase will affect the selection of the other parts.

I was so excited to begin :(

about the system, yeah I bought it in best buy. My system originally had vista.

this is the rams i have
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NANYA-2GB-2...8HD0BY-AD-4GB-RAM-/150811546072#ht_500wt_1413
3 of those.. ddr2 so i guess it's worthless.

Ok, for the 3rd time: you still haven't answered my question: Do you have the retail or OEM key? That info is very important as a retail key will allow you to move the OS install to a new PC. If it's an OEM key, you're technically not allowed to move the OS over to a new PC. In that case, you would have to buy another Windows 7 key.

Worthless for a new PC.

Ohhh, I'm sorry, I misunderstood, Yes I believe I do have the retail key.

In that case, yes you can try to hook up your ol' 600GB drive to the new PC and it might boot and work just fine. Windows 7 tends to be rather good at being moved from different hardware. With that said, be prepared to do a reinstall just in case. So back up your data and all that.

I think for your budget if you can afford it the HD 6870 would be a good call. For that budget you will likely want to save up some money and try and get $1k together or you will be skimping somewhere.

Will do..

Would I be able to stick with nvidia instead? I feel like it's a better choice. But you guys are the experts.

I don't think I'd be able to get 1k anytime soon =/. I was thinking, since the most expensive part of it all is the graphic card, I'd just buy a goodd motherboard, good psu, cpu, that supports a $300 card, and then just buy the graphic card a month later. My point is, I need a computer running, because this one im selling. Doesn't have to be for gaming specifically for now. I know it's best to buy it all together but.. That would only be possible if I wait an entire month.

It's the better choice if you have a larger budget. Unfortunatley the cheapest bang for the buck and actually reviewed Nvidia card is the $180 to $190 GTX 560. Even then it's outperformed by the $175 to 190 HD 6870 and uses more power and generates more heat. The best bang for the buck Nvidia GPU is the $400 GTX 670.

The problem is that you're gonna have to wait a month anyway to get enough money for the system itself sans dedicated GPU. As you said, you have only have $200. About two weeks from now, you HOPE to have $300 total. And supposedly two weeks after that, you could get another $400 to top off the build. $300 isn't enough for the base system. So you're gonna end up waiting 4 weeks or basically a month anyway just to get enough money for the base system. And thats all assuming that you don't have a sudden emergency that requires you to spend your money.

True.. Well, thankss a lot for everything, I will update this when as soon as I have $600-800 to spend. Hopefully, selling this pc, and xbox games I have, plus the money I have saved up, I might come up with the money quicker. Hopefully I'll have as much as $800 to work with.
Anyway, thank you guys!

Heyy good news.. I managed to sell my hp touchsmart pc for $500 so by this friday i will have 700 in total. I'd like to start buying everything asap! Im excited :D

Unfortunately kind of a bad time. Here's the deal: To save you money, we tend to rely heavily on Newegg combo deals. However, Newegg's May combo deals will be ending on May 31st/June 1st. However, Newegg's June combo deals won't really appear till the 4th or maybe even the 6th of June. So please come back on June 4th and bump up this thread again.

That's fine, it'll give me time to collect all the money, should have around $700 - $800 by then :), I will bump this thread next monday then, thanks.

Heyy, So I'm bumping this thread again like you said! So the budget is $800 with shipping included. No more than that. Asides from that I will buy a monitor 23' or 24' lcd 1080p, but that will be 2 or 3 weeks from now. For now though, I will use an lcd 32' one, my tv. Again, with this pc, I plan on playing bf3 on as better quality as I can with this budget. Thank you =)

I don't quite understand how overclocking would benefit me. I do plan on getting an ssd later with the monitor. What do you recommend?

Alrightt so then ill go for the first build. Thankss a lot danny, I'll let you know how it all goes :).

btw danny, is this an equally good case? I like better, if not, then I'd stick with the one you recommended.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na-_-na&AID=10440897&PID=3891137&SID=rewrite

As Danny stated, it is not better. In fact, IMHO it is a downgrade from the NZXT case Danny recommended for these two reasons:

1) It comes with only one fan (as I found out and as Danny mentioned). You will need to purchase two additional 120mm fans for that case, which will add as much as an extra $30 to the cost.

2) At $53 shipped (from Newegg), it is a bit too expensive for what it is. In fact, its quality is not as good as some other cases in that same price range. Plus (as I mentioned), the additional fans will bring the total cost to more than $70 shipped!

However, Danny is partially incorrect about that case not having much if any cable management features. The case does have a cutout on the motherboard tray to route the cables through - but you will have to provide your own plastic ties since none come with the case.

Thank you guyss, I expect to buy everything tomorrow. As to the buildup, I'm not so sure about it, I mean, I know where every cable goes and everything I guess, but It's my first time, I don't really wanna screw it up, you guys got any goodd instructional videos that can help? It'll be greatly appreciated. Though, thank you guys for giving such good advice all the time =).

Alright, following guides and stuff I managed to completely build up the pc. Little problem though, I start it off, and it boots the hdd, but when it goes to the window loading screen, it crashes, and starts over. I go to the msi utility thing and that works fine. Ive tried restoring, repairing and all that but it still doesnt work. my hdd is connected to the 3gb sata on the motherboard, I dont know what else to do? is it the motherboard or hdd? Thanks

edit: this is my hdd i believe:
