just sharing/celebrating my recent eyefinity setup.
i had a 1920*1200 24" lcd from two years ago, i had a 26" lcd tv from the bedroom that runs 1360*768
so i used best buy gift certificate and rz pts to nab another 26" lcd tv for 200.00. not ideal, but i was under budget constraints for sure.
picked up a 5870 used for 325.00
positives:
-3 monitors with little new investment
-since i had to run at 4080*768, i was fine using a 35.00 passive display port to vga adapter as opposed to 100.00 options for higher rez
-lower rez=easier to drive for the gpu
-huge displays for serious immersion
negatives:
-high pixel pitch
-lcd tv's = larger bezels
neither of these have bothered me but I know it would drive some people crazy.
spent the day combing widescreengamingforum for programs/settings to play all favs in eyefinity. so far today:
-crysis, far cry 2, cod 4, stalker cs and jericho
all i can say guys is holy shit! god bless ati. eyefinity is amazing! this is like gaming on a personal sized imax. over about the past 6 months i have leaned towards my 360 and ps3 due to my 58" plasma and awesome home theater but i have now fallen in love with my pc all over again.
*** just a couple notes****
- no flickering or odd screen issues for me, again i think you either need the passive adapter i purchased for anything under *1080 or it needs to be active. the really cheap passive adapters have given a lot of people fits.
-the 5870 is a beast! i have ran 280's and 260's in sli and the 5870 has been a very smooth ride. not that it shouldn't be, it's newer with smaller fab etc. it's just faster than i had presumed.
