NOT MEANT TO BASH ALL PC COMPANIES, ONLY HP

ok im not one to buy a brand name PC but my dad got me one which was way better than my current one so i switched over to his gift. the comp had prescott 3.0E, fx5200. i decided to switch the fx5200 with my oc'ed ti4200 (300/600), i also added in my sb audigy mp3+. after a week the cpu was getting to hot (damn prescott), so i set my ti4200 to stock. but it was still overheating, even when idling on desktop with nothing in the background, the fan would throttle about 7-10 times an hour. this causes a lot of problems so i sent it to hp for repairs. i clearly state on the forms and support emails the third-party hardware i added, and when they sent back the comp they only gave me back my sb audigy card. they took my ti4200 (which i spent $200 on last year) and stated that it was the wrong vga card. i tried to call them and ask for reimbursement and they tell me nope sorry we lost it we cant do anything. well in short, HP did nothing but take away 1 month of my life, robbed me of $200 dollars, and did nothing except reformat and tell me i have the wrong vga card and an extra audio card.

after that expierience, i am never using a brand name, if its a gift im going to ask if i can exchange for a pc of my choice

retail pc = lose

the day i but a pc already assembled is the day i dont have hands to work a screwdriver, or eyes to see what im doing...but then again if i dont have eyes i wont be able to use a computer

oooo i could invent a brail computer......................

ok so anyway that sucks alot...call up BBB (better business bureau) and see if u can get them on the case...companies are so afraid of them

Lol, well, unfortunately, they've beat you to it, though they don't use brail. My grandmother has a blind friend which is why I know this. Basically, they can go through something or other with the government and get a computer oriented specifically for the blind furbished for very low prices that's only a bit outdated and they use special software that reads the screens. (I STILL say they should just use Linux since you can do anything from the console with the right software.) d-: Ironically, those PCs are pre-assembled... ^_^

Anyway, it sucks that HP did that. I agree about contacting the better business bureu, though I'd first give them one more chance with a warning of possible consiquences. The card was your property and you explicitely told them about it, so it's a pretty bad screwup on their part. In fact, someone I know was just about to get a new PC and they were thinking about HP. Perhaps I should steer them away from it after all (well, I remembered Compaq so was a bit worried, but figured the normal HPs were different enough.....)

Okay, let me try and understand what's going on here. I may be misunderstanding, because the language wasn't very clear, but here goes. You bought an HP, and it was over-heating. (Prescott, happens to all OEMS selling Prescott machines). You sent them back your whole PC, with a Ti4200 in it that you bought separately, and when we returned your PC, it didn't have the video card. Am I close?

First, it's not usually the process to return a whole PC. It's usually fixed on site, replaced on site, or your given a service center. Also, it's usually clearly stated, and also part of common sense, that you don't send anything back that is not necessary or came with the PC. Your at fault for ignoring that logic, but it doesn't make up for losing the card. We do have several customer service numbers to call and complain, and they almost always give you results. That's part of why we surpassed Dell as #1 customer service. If you cannot get anywhere with that, contact me on AIM or send me a PM and you can give me the related info, including who signed for your PC when you sent it to us, and I will try and find out what happened. I do not work on the retail side, but I know people who can help.

Also, everyone needs to realize that there is a horror story about every company in the world. Everyone has a critic. So one person's story doesn't make HP or any other company a bad company. Someone like OCZ that robbed thousands of people, have been found guilty of criminal activity, and sell false products, etc....that's what makes a bad company.

*EDIT* If you do not have info, it is going to be hard to help. We get hundreds of scam attempts a day of people claiming we lost their computer, and as it turns out they never were customers. Same thing happens to Dell, Gateway, and all OEMs. I'm not accusing you, I'm just saying you'll need the info.

Hopefully you will get this resolved. But for future reference, never ever send a PC back with third party hardware added to it. Your lucky you got your SB Live back. What it they decided to scrap the whole PC and give you a new equivalent or better one? OEM's do not support anything that didn't come with the PC...hardware or software.

The company I work for uses HP for all it's hardware ....Servers...Workstations....Printers....etc. I'm not sure where we fit into on the scale of things, but we are almost completed with our latest upgrade to our systems. Installed approx 130 HP Proliant servers and nearly 500 HP d330t workstations. My point is, we went with HP for a reason, and it wasn't a total money issue. There were cheaper vendors out there, but the IT department didn't want to spend time supporting and fixing junk for the next 5 years.

yeh, it was a pretty dumb idea to send it modified. You thought theyd be HAPPY? Youre lucky they didnt just keep the whole thing and tell you it was completly broken, if you format your drive Dell voids your warrenty
