Hello guys,

Recently I made a post about the my requirements for a new build, which can be seen here:

Back then, I wasn't sure about overclocking. Now, after reading a few threads, I am wondering if it would be worth it to pass from a i5-2400 to an i5-2500k to overclock. Would the difference in performance be worth it?
And if so, which cooler should I get / would the rest of my build still stay the same (see below)?

It's really up to you. You can safely assume that with a 2500K you can get a 4.5 Ghz overclock with little effort. You can get 4.0 - 4.3 or so by simply upping the multiplier.

The rest of your build would still be fine. As for a cooler, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 is cheap and performs very well. Sometimes you can find it for around $20.

Well D3 isn't out so no one can say just how big of a performance difference there will be in that game. However with SC2, you can see up to a 25% performance increase if you OC the 2500K to around 4.2Ghz from the stock Core i5-2500K speed of 3.3Ghz.

The build will stay the same. I recommend the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ as well
 
So for about 80$ (cooler and price difference with for 2500k) I could gain 1.2k on my cpu (from 3.3k to 4.5k).

Or I could just go for 4k without cooler for about 40$ more..

Or I could not overclock at all.. decisions, decisions :p
