Hi All,

When I turn my PC on, I hear a beeb (it's like a siren, not jut a single beep) and I don't get a video signal. (one time, many months ago I heard this and I realized that it's power cable was not connected, although I got a colored text in the middle of screen)

I can't see any BIOS text.

I have made sure that 9800 XT power cable is connected.

Please HELP!!!

It's an ABIT IT7-MAX2 (Rev 1.0) MoBo, and I can see the codes (LED Dial on the MoBo, I'm sure, you know what I am talking about):

You didn't say what BIOS you have but you said it sounds like a siren. Award BIOS has a repeating High/Low frequency beep code that means CPU failure. That means it's either dead, damaged, not seated correctly in the socket, or not starting due to excessive heat. I've seen this problem when not enough thermal compound is used when installing a CPU and a heatsink/fan (HSF).

1st thing to check is if the fan on teh CPU is working. modern motherboards have a protection line in the BIOS that if it doesn't detect a signal from the CPU fan then it won't start up. This is to protect your CPU from burning up from a dead/dying fan. So maybe your CPU's HSF is dead. And make sure it's plugged in to the CPU fan port on the motherboard. It could have come loose.

If the HSF is working then the 2nd thing I would do would be to take off the HSF, reseat the CPU (inspect for damage such as scorch marks or cracked core), apply some thermal compound to the core (Artic Silver 5 is great stuff and make sure it's a nice thin layer but not too thin so you can see the core thru the thermal goop. If you put a little too much it's ok.

OK, it's not the Video card, nor my RAM or CPU. I really don't know what it was. Anyways, it went to BIOS setup and reset everything (set to default).

Now Windows XP Pro doesn't boot up. I chose Safe Mode and it get stuck on agp440.sys

I even connected my other HDD (has WinXP and Master) and got stuck in same place.

Last time that happened to me... I didn't have a heatsink on my CPU!

^^ holly crap!

was it okay? I heard it takes no time for them to get damaged from that kind of thing.
