Hi guys, i just noticed this happening last night.

I was sitting at the comp, typing something, and i noticed the mouse pointer just moving by itself up and to the left of the screen......in fact it just did it for a bit then. No matter what surface i put it on, it is for some reason moving by itself.


As i type this, its now moving straight down.......and stopped.


Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
 
the 'eye' is being fooled by the pattern of whatever is under it. put something else underneath it.
you need to find something with a different pattern / texture then what you have been using.
 
Im using a piece of white paper, which is what i always use, but it also does it on my black laminex desk.

I'll try a few more surfaces and see teh result. Why would it start doing this all of a sudden?
 
Are you using SP2?

I had the EXACT same problem as you. Read about SP2 causing this, so I uninstalled it, and presto, it was fixed.

So, to fix this problem, uninstall SP2. :D
 
I have an MX300 with the same problem. The problem existed prior to SP1, and 2... I also seem to have it happen no matter what surface I'm using (even my Ratpadz).
 
Never heard of it happening with SP1a.

Mine also did it on various surfaces, and it started right after I installed SP2. Like I said, once I got rid of SP2, the problem went away.

How long has this been happening? Did it start right after you installed SP1a? Did it start after you installed any other programs? To me, it seems to be a software problem since, as I read in the past, it was caused by SP2. Dunno.

Same problem here, not sure if ti did it before I upgraded to SP2 or not :confused:
 
Logitech has a pretty impressive optical engine if it can move without any forces being applied to it. Needless to say, my MX300 does the same thing every now and again. It seems fine if your hand is on it. Maybe it likes being wanted, and when you aren't using it, it gets lonely and wants attention.

Just a theory. :)
 
I'm telling your it's an earthquake or a really good sound system down the street.

Actually, try updating the Logitech Mouseware if you are not using the newest version or at least close to it.
 
I have the latest MouseWare. Blegh... guess having a posessed mouse adds that bit of "character" I was looking for in my machine. :(
 
My Logitech (non MX series) mouse does this too. At first I thought it was my subwoofer as it is just under my desk. But then it started happening when I didn't have music playing. I'm thinking now it might be a software problem. I'm not going to worry about it though. It only wanders off when I'm not using it, which is rare.

I'm running XP Pro with SP2.
Generic XP USB mouse drivers.
 
Yeah same thing is happening with my MX700 now. It's gotten to the point where it's affecting my double-click ability because the cursor moved.

I called up Logitech and got an RMA about two weeks ago. But they said they didn't have stock so I might have to wait a week or two longer then usual for the replacement to show up. Too bad I wasn't as lucky as other people to get a MX1000.
 
Same thing happened here with my MX-700 after installing SP2. I wasn't running Mouseware originally, but decided to try it to see if that would fix it... and it did. I've always had bad results with Mouseware in the past, but the current version is working fine for me
 
I'm just glad that someone else is having this problem. I got tired of it with mine and went out and bought the MX1000. If these tips work, then I'll let my 6 year old have the MX700. ;)

At the time mine did it, I didn't have Mouseware installed, only generic MS. I tried Mouseware in the past and didn't care for it, so after a format I didn't install it.

Anyway, if it's happening with Mouseware and w/o it, as well as with SP2 and w/o it, I'm at a loss as to what it could be. I googled the problem and only found people bitching about it. However, I'm tired and about to go to bed, so I'll give it another shot later.

I wonder if there is a problem with having Mouseware installed and then installing SP1 or SP2. The order in which stuff is installed can make a difference. It could be that installing Mouseware after installing SP1 or SP2 may take care of the problem. I've never had the problem but I have always had SP1 installed before installing Mouseware.

Maybe someone with the problem might re-install Mouseware if you had previously had it installed before installing SP1 or SP2.
 
I'm using SP2 (latest mouseware I believe) and haven't noticed that. My old corded mouse did that though.
