musky made headlines

Congrats Musky, you do this "group of Folding@Home contributors" proud!

Heh, congrats Musky! TOo bad they didn't mention what team he folds with, although I can understand why.

Interesting....now can you guess who wrote this review? I had to dig a bit to figure it out....

My googlefu is a bit weak, but I have a suspicion...

I got it. It is obvious once you figure it out.

Tobit, could you post that a bit larger? I can't quite read it from across the room, lol.

BTW, musky's benchmark tool is awesome. I've been using it off and on
since it's inception and most recently to help stress test the overclock of my new gaming rig.

My god Tobit, that is a great overclock. Is that voltage correct?!

Hehe... Jebo, you sly dog.

Unfortunately, yes. I'd like to run a bit less voltage but, at these clocks, F@H needs more volts to be stable. Most other applications run fine with less volts.

Yeah that is a bit on the high side, but at least you have a good frequency!

In full disclosure, I intended to use haitch's benchmark, but it was giving me problems. Musky's bench is simple and stable.

Nice OC indeed. What mobo you using ? any more special tweaks? e.g. PLL v or CPU-NB v ? I can't get my NB anywhere near that high and without hangs several hours in, nor keep my RAM at 1600 without random reboots and/or game crashes. My X6 is my main folding rig and I'd like to eke out as much ppd for the Horde as I can, especially since I've had to downsize the farm in the last little while.

Asus Crosshair V. I really didn't tweak much at all as I am still learning how to OC AMD CPUs. I've been pretty much an Intel fanboi til now. I'd like to lower the volts a bit so I am starting to experiment with some of the more advanced settings.

Hmm, yeah. My CPU v is 1.475 but I'm only at 4.0GHz on air. Although I have cpu's from both I was usually an Intel guy too, at least for OCing. Budget concerns have been a factor the last few years tho and AMD has good enuff stuff and they don't change their sockets every few months so I've got a couple AMD rigs now and I'm a bit of a novice with them too. I've read that 1.3v CPU-NB is about max and should allow a NB speed of 3000 but mine won't stay stable at 2600 so my mobo must be holding me back. As for my RAM I tried all the way up to 1.65v even tho these are rated 1.5 v @ 1600 and loosened off a couple timings and I'm only running at 2T but no go. (I haven't even tried since I upgraded to 16GB) The 1600 rating is an Intel XMP spec tho and the integrated mem controller on these AMD's is only rated at 1333 so maybe you got luckier with your silicon or the memory circuitry is better on the Crosshair. OCing is a Dark Art indeed, I need a drink ... / sound of cork popping
