Mushkin vs Kingston?

Hey there. I am in the market for some new RAM. My Mobo can take up to PC2-6400 (800MHz), and up to 8GB. I found Mushkin 4GB (2x2GB) with timings of: CL 5-5-5-18. I also found some Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) with the same timings, but for 3 bucks cheaper. The Mushkin comes with heatsinks while the Kingston does not. I've had Kingston before and it performed well, but have never had Mushkin. Which RAM should I go with?

-Thanks in advance.

I've had great luck with Mushkin for years and their customer service has treated me very well every time I've had to deal with them. Never used Kingston, though.

I like Mushkin other than the fact that they are one of those douchebag companies that invalidates all warranties if you buy the stuff second hand. I wouldn't mind warranty law being expanded to prevent that slimy practice. I haven't bought any of their products since learning that. I'm voting against that practice - with my wallet.

Never was a huge fan of Kingston, though I realize that they are a big name and they have plenty of fans.

Mushkin. Kingston is fine for a stock machine but I would never buy it if Mushkin was the other option. Currently running Mushkin in all of my personal machines. Also great customer service and support. I once ordered a pair of modules from them that FedEx claimed to have delivered that I never received. I called Mushkin and they overnighted a replacement set.

Mushkin it is. Thanks for the quick replies and for making the decision process an obvious one. Cheers.

Good luck with that OCZ Gold. I had to return my set when I built my i7 rig, I bought it at MicroCenter. In fact when I returned it the salesmen selling me the set of Corsair I replaced it with immediately guessed the brand I had returned.

Also, I'm pretty sure OCZ just announced they were shutting down their RAM department.

I like Mushkin. I've had Mushkin in previous builds and have recommended them for friend's builds. They like them now as well. I did buy Corsair for my current build due to price, but I picked up a Mushkin Callisto Deluxe SSD to make up for it.
:D

Get the stuff rated for 1.80V and made with name brand chips. Name brands do not include Mushkin, Kingston, Corsair, Patriot, G.Skill, etc.

Personally I like kingston for compatibility reason. It has been the most compatible for me at home and at my work.

I won't ever touch another OCZ memory kit. I had three bad sets in a row and one was from an RMA. Maybe it was the series but still it was horrendous.

I used to be a paying member of the Adata fanclub, but I just had to RMA a bad stick of Adata about two weeks ago.
So now I'm a fan of the unlabeled memory you buy at Korean mom and pop shops. Never had one of those go bad. Koreans FTW.

I went with the Kingston HyperX 2Ghz Triple Channel memory for my Rampage Extreme III - very nice memory.

Personally, I usually go with Mushkin as I've had nothing but positive experiences with them in the past. Their DDR2 kit I had overclocked to 1GHz on stock volts until I updated the BIOS - never got them to run that speed again with no changes though. This DDR3 kit I have does 1720Mhz on rated voltage and timings as well - haven't tried higher. Definitely going to keep buying Mushkin. Never had to RMA anything to them and I'm currently waiting on one of their rebates, so I can't say much as far as that goes.

Seems like every brand has its shitsticks and awesomesticks. Although, I've heard some bad stories about OCZ. Best of luck to you, though.

You do realize that these companies do not actually manufacture the memory chips that go into the dimms?

OCZ is awful nowadays. I had major issues with the pair I bought a while back. Had to RMA. Too bad you pulled the trigger before we could give you the heads up.

Sucks about OCZ... I've been lucky, I've run a few memory tests and they've passed. I hope they last me a long time.

I've had very bad results with OCZ - had to RMA several kits.... their only saving grace is the RMA process is relatively painless.... but of all the memory brands I've used, I've RMA'ed OCZ brands the most.

Yea OCZ is really hit or miss, Mushkin on the other hand, I have never had a bad Mushkin stick, and I've used a LOT of them over the years.
