Hi All: I'm starting to buy some of my parts for my new build come the end of summer. Anyway....What is Mushkin PSU track record? I have always bought their RAM & Mushkin customer service has always been "top-notch"

I was thinking about the Corsair HX620, but that might not be enough down the road. Also...I have to have modular cables! Once you go modular, it's tough to go back.

I found this Mushkin PSU here @ Newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817812006

Looks solid enough & get good reviews. Did some searches for Mushkin in here & there really isn't much.

Any & all insight would be appreciated from all!

Many Thanks!

Alex

David: That Corsair looks very, very nice for the coin. Only that it's not modular! Corsair seems to be all the rage these days & I guess for good reason.

I wanted to chime in again, I found this soild review here:

Can't access the link for some reason. But probably not a real PSU review actually since last time I checked, OC Club never did real PSU testing (with an ATE, ripple measurements, hotbox, etc). So that review is still not a good primer on the quality of that PSU. Looks like the PSU is made by Topower though. They make so-so quality PSUs IIRC.

EDIT: Not a good first impression of that PSU here:

Poor review, they just plug it in to a midrange system & it works!

I don't know who makes today's Mushkin PSU's, maybe they will ship a couple to Paul & Wolf and we will find out.

Topower makes whatever you order from $20-retail smoke generators to $300+ "top of the line" PSU's.

I found this review here:

Seems a little more detailed. I gues the OEM manufacturer is Topower, which makes BFG Tech. PSU's. Who is fact makes Corsairs PSU's?

Topower makes BFG's older PSUs which wasn't that good. BFG's current ES, MX, and LS series are made by different manufacturers now:
ES series: Andyson
MX and LS (older LS-550W): Forepoint
LS-450 and newer LS-550W: Enhance

As for who makes Corsair PSUs, here's the list straight from the Corsair rep:
400CX = Seasonic
450HX = Seasonic
450VX = Seasonic
520HX = Seasonic
620HX = Seasonic
550VX = CWT
650TX = Seasonic
750TX = CWT
850TX = CWT
1000HX = CWT

Hey guys...Thanks for all of your input. Is Sparkle considered a good PSU manufacturer?

As far as I know, Sparkle = FSP, which means that they're okay when it comes to lower-wattage units, but the higher-end stuff tends to be mediocre to plain bad. See these examples:

In fact, the layout of the modular connectors on that Sparkle PSU looks identical to the layout of the 700W FSP Everest (see here for the Sparkle and here for the Everest), so my instinct would be to stay far away.

Hey guys...Thanks for all of your input. Is Sparkle considered a good PSU manufacturer?

They're meh IMO. I usually associate their PSUs with office type rigs, rather than gaming PCs.

But I don't trust that particularly Sparkle PSU. If you check the specs PDF for that PSU, the ripple on the +3.3V/ 5V and +12V rail is reported as 70mV and 140mV respectively. That far exceeds the maximum safe ripple rating stated by the ATX 2.2V specs of 50mV and 120mV respectively. So thats definitely not a good sign of the PSU's quality.

EDIT: And Zero82z just provided a bit more proof of Sparkle's quality. So definitely on the avoid list.
