Multi GPU Autostart

How are you guys having your GPUs start on your headless boxen?

I have my server that has Server 2008 installed.
The thing is I dont ever log into it. So I cant just put the shortcuts in the startup folder.

What should I do?

Yea but according to stanford the service wont work for Vista and up.

In vista and 7 you can have it auto login a user on startup, that's what I did, then put GPU shortcuts and afc shortcut in there. This way, I can remotely restart it and it will get back to where I can control it via remote

Not sure, but I would think whs would have something like that

Well im using 2008 server, and im not sure I want to have an active user session.
Something just bothers me about this.

I don't think there's a way to have a program running without a user account being logged in aside from using a Service. I think having a user account automatically log in is probably the way to go for this.

True, you MUST use a service. So I'm looking into services starting batch files (under a username).

Well I guess I could do it if I used Console GPUs instead of Systray.

That way each GPU is truly its own instance, and I dont have use shortcuts cause the flags would be in the config of GPU console client.

With a GPU, this may get trickey... does the nVidia driver set allow you to use them without logging in? I know I ran SMP clients based off of services, but GPU... that's whats stopping my idea from working.

The display driver should be loaded as soon as the operating system is finished loading.

basically follow that closely, ignoring the uTorrent parts.

Use:

cd c:\
cd "Program Files (x86)"
cd "Folding@home"
cd "Folding@home-x86"
"Folding@home.exe"

for each batch instance.

I have my 2 SMP borgs hooked up this way.

Don't forget:

Run the service first, from the service control panel, then configure.
Set the service to run from the account you configured them from
You don't have to create a new user.
Run the CMD as an admin... save some time by doing this.
Set the service to startup the batch file, during the registry step.

Tested on Server 2008 Standard (not R2), SMP client. GPU... gotta try, I guess ).

Well on Server 2008 and Windows 7, using it as a service does not work whether you use the command line client or the systray and manually create the entry.
Also setting up a scheduled task does not work..

Im going to try to write a powershell script and include it in the local GPO Startup scripts.
But this will have to wait till tomorrow.

This. Easiest way to do it, it's what I do for my multiple things that I need to run inside windows that have issues running with services.

Not much of a security risk since the box is physically safe and it auto-locks faster than someone could disable it.
