Not sure which forum is best for this, but I'll try here first.
I've got a weird problem with MSIE 6 as shipped with XP SP2: it won't display webpages anymore. If I type in a HTTP address into the address bar, IE waves its progress flag for about 30 seconds before concluding that "the page cannot be displayed."
The system network configuration is correct, however, and Firefox works perfectly. I just can't use IE--which is unfortunately essential for moron sites that are MSIE only.
If I monitor network activity with my firewall (Outpost) there is no indication that IE is attempting any network activity whatsoever. It's not trying but failing to open connections; it's simply not trying in the first place. Disabling Outpost and AV (NOD32) doesn't help. Nor are there any suspicious BHOs or LSPs contaminating IE or Winsock.
Any ideas on what might be broken here--or suggestions on better forums to ask?
Thanks.
