I don't have the articles in front of me right now but sli'd 470's scale very well in most games. Something to the effect of 70%-90% depending on the game if I remember what the gang on PC Per were saying on their podcast. I need some coffee, will come back and link the article... One link. Oh, and let's not forget the [H] review!

I heard the same thing, 5850 is about equal to GTX470 alone, but in Crossfire/SLI GTX470 gets more of an improvement in performance. Tho, I'd prefer the 5850 due to the extreme heat and power requirements of the of the GTX470. Good to see nVidia prices coming down to earth, I've always felt nVidia overcharged on under-performing parts. For example, the GTX465 is comparable to the 5830, but costs $80 more.

I just picked up a 5870 for $287 shipped from eBay a couple of days ago, how does this compare to a 5870?

For the most part, 5870 will win in everything but high tesslation enabled games.

Basically with this deal it boils down to whether or not you want Eyefinity. If you don't, snag this 470, if you do, snag the 5850.

visiontek still has a lifetime warranty and they aren't near as bad to deal with then diamond, but you're still only talking $20 difference at that point. But company wise I'd say MSI = Visiontek.

you are on a tech forum and you just bought a 5870 but you have no idea how a gtx470 compares? are you really that much out of the loop?

anyway the gtx470 competes with 5850 and is usually a tiny bit faster. the 5850 uses much less power though than the noisy and hot gtx470 though.

well I just got my BCB sent to my checking account and ShopDiscover points are also ready to be used. This brings my total for my TD bought XFX 5870 to $305. I'll take that over an ebay deal $18 cheaper

I would say using guru3d's newest benchmarks
gtx 470 > 5850
470 just behind 5870
gtx 480 > 5870
480 just behind 5970

nvidia
even more performance on sli vs. crossfire

470 is halfway between the 5850 and 5870... dont give it more credit than its due.

470 pros:
-slightly better than 5850, warrants the price difference over deals at tiger direct
-great SLI scale so later down the road you can pick one up for cheap probably

cons:
-takes up a fucking shitload of power and produces a lot of heat. If you sli these you better have a fucking beast of a psu.
