I am stuck between a few mouse pads. Any advice on which to get would be greatly appreciated. I use the MX518 and I am a low sensitvity gamer.

-Banshee Pad
-Steelpad Qck+
-Steelpad 4S
-Steelpad 4D
-Icemat 2nd Ed.

Does having a hardcore mousepad really make a difference? I just use some crap ikea one. Seems okay... but maybe because I haven't had any better. I use an mx510 on the thing.

I've got an Ulti-mat. It's teflon coated metal. It gave my Logitech optical mouse fits. As long as it didn't go to sleep it was fine, but once it went to sleep (the light got dim) it was hard as hell to wake it back up. I use a Razer Diamondback on it now, and I love it. Smooth as silk.

i use the icemat rev 2 on my razer diamond back..

It's a very nice setup, but I think I need new mouse skates as it isn't as slick as it was anymore..

it's VERY precise though, and very smooth.. not too much noise from the glass either..

i just use a couple pieces of construction paper, works just as good. =)

I'll tell you my experience with a couple pads, mainly the Bansheepad though:

I was one of those who was beeming with joy when I first recieved my brand new Bansheepad. A mousepad, pratically made for shooters with it's awkward stylings and my username engraved into it...pure joy overcame me, until I found all the problems it had.

The problems came in with condensation for one, others had complained about the same thing with the Steelpad 3S. Depending on your room temp, how hot your wrist gets etc, you can be in for tracking hell. Also, the edges aren't "sharp" but are indeed extremely uncomfortable. There is a product to counter this now though, the gaming glove from Steelpad. To continue with the story though, I had got a little insert with my pad suggesting I use Carnuaba wax. Oh why was I so foolish to fall for it. I asked via email and they said get some plain jane Turtle Wax. I applied it, and now have a $50 untrackable paperweight. They of course said they never experienced such issues, and of course I was forced to replace it and gave it the heeve hoe off my desk...permenantly...

So, if you do buy one don't listen to jack shit from Atomic Bolts on "enhancing" the performance. So far I just bought an Xtrac Ripper XL as a replacement, it's got a nice surface that's about as smooth as plastic, doesn't wear as fast, is quite comfy on the wrist, is huge....could go on for a while, let's just say I like it....a lot....

Other suggestions I would offer would be the C4 from CShyde. It's basically a sheet of Teflon you can mouse on and is also excellent. I found it too slick though after a while, but whichever you choose right?

Anyway, I'll tell you some Pros and Cons for the pads listed:
Bansheepad: Slick and durable...well, unless something heavy dings it or it gets chipped. It also happend after I took it off my desk and leaved it out for a while. In other words, it still has to be pampered...but otherwise as long as you can avoid any persperation/ condensation on it, it should be okay....

Steelpad Qck+: Perfect for a LAN gamer who wants a light surface to go with. Not as smooth, but smooth enough IMO. For low sens mostly, if you need a smoother one see the Ripper XL as I've suggested ^_-

Steelpad 4S: See bansheepad basically. They are both very similar overall, they will carry the same problems and advantages generally. I think the Bansheepad stomps it though do to it's larger area and customization features.

Steelpad 4D: Like any plastic pad it will wear after about a year of use or less. Probably as smooth or smoother than the fUnc I can't say it's a horrible pad by any means, but it's pretty basic for a HS.

Suggestions for plastic:
If you want a plastic surface for home (not LANs) see the Xtrac Hammer. If you want one for LANs look at Xtrac Hybrids.

Icemat 2: Doesn't scratch, slick, has to be cleaned but what doesn't? Definately a good pad...if you don't plan on transporting it IMO. Glass can shatter, so LAN gamers will probably want to avoid this pad unless they know they can pamper it to and from where they are going ^_-

I hope this helps sum things up for you...yes I've been pushing Xtrac a lot recently, but oh well....

I use a magazine taped to a desk.... I would prefer a 12x12 cloth pad but cant find one anywhere :) It works really well for me but I have to change it every week due to sweat on the magazine making it all wavy

$4.99 Super MouseMat

http://shop2.outpost.com/product/2971635?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Cloth - Smooth and soft with my MX518/510's
Large - lots of space (very important to low sensitity setting users)
Cheap - 1 stays on my computer shelf, 1 stays in the lan bag
Usefull - protects LCD screen when going to lans.

that was very helpful shike. now i just have to decided between the icemat and the xtrac ripper xl.

I have an early version of the corepad and now I won't use anything but glass. I like the corepad because it uses pitted tempered safety glass so in case it breaks it won't break into sharp pieces like other glass pads. I got it for less than $25 too.

Good point too, if you can get a Corepad I would probably suggest it over the Icemat (I've had trouble finding a supplier). Being made of safety glass I heard it's quite durable in comparison and just as smooth (not to mention avoiding sharp pieces of shrapnel like mentioned is a definate plus for if it does break). Of course, I always suggest looking at reviews for true comparisons...

Other than that glad I could be of help ^_^

the icemat is pretty tough.. You'd have to pound that thing as hard as you can to break it on your desk.. Now, moving it to around for a LAN, that's a different story, and you risk messing it up if you're not careful..

I liked the corepad from the reviews it got, but couldn't find any store that carried it, so I go the icemat..

I don't think it's as slick as my original ratpad with a fresh pledge coating.. but, it's definately more accurate.. don't get me wrong, it's still slick, but I can't tap my mouse and send it flying off the pad.. which is a good thing really, as super slick pads like that are harder to stop on your target, and will actually reduce your precision.. It needs to be slick to move around nice and easy, and fast, but have enuff resistance still to stop on a dime without going over..

least, that's how I see it.. everyone is different though on how the slick/resistance ratio should be for their gameplay.. I'm a very high resolution gamer, that focuses on FPS games, so I need to be able to whip the mouse around very fast, yet still pull off accurate shots when I need to..

I have the fUnc 1030 and it works flawlessly for me with my MX1000, the mouse glides across the pad effortlessly, I love it.

fUnc has out their new F-Series pads. I would look at one of them because the fUnc 1030 is the best mousepad i've ever used.

magnetik, I dare you to follow the insert and "enhance" performance by using some carnuaba wax. Come on, there's DuPoint, Turtle Wax...uhh, a bunch of others....

Actually, they suggest Turtle Wax...why not try it?

Gotta love the bi-monthly mousepad thread. wOOt!! :D

I'm using a fun1030. Nice but kinda small for me. I could get the bigger single sided one. The smooth side has never been used, so that wouldn't be an issue for me.

just ordered a pair of Hyperglide skates for my Diamondback.. We'll see how they do with my Icemat Rev2.. should be pretty good, especially since my teflon tape I've been using probably wore out 4 months ago.. but I haven't replaced it.. ;)

It's only Zaino's for me... won't try any of that quick run to autozone crap. :D

Wait, yours still works after car polish!?

I so want to kill Atomic Bolts, Turtle Wax my ass -_-'

BTW, quick run to Auto Zone crap isn't actually true either, considering it's what they told me to use. Now whenever I move my hand on it, it gets a nice smudge that can't be tracked. Now of course it's practically impossible getting the stuff off.

LOL! I thought you were joking! I find it smooth enough without anything tho.

I am sure you can remove the wax with some 3M automotive tar & wax remover.

I just may give that a try...

Either way I have a new pad now though, and no condensation issues ^_^
