motion sickness???

Games that have bad FOV settings and camera bob make me sick but if I keep playing for a few days the effects are less and I can play longer.

ive just started getting this recently and very badly. so far alpha protocol and donkey kong 64 have both made me really nauseous and sweaty in under an hour. dead space doesnt seem as bad. i think those are the only games ive been playing recently so thats all i have to go off of. i played tons of computer games all through college and then basically stopped after graduation in 2006. recently ive started playing more again in the last few months and i just cant do it any more. :(

Yeah, I never remember getting motion sickness at all in games as a kid (I used to get car sick if I couldn't see out a window or see the road, but never video game sickness). I only ever started getting motion sickness in games, ohhh, probably the first time I ever noticed it was when I was about 22 or 23 years old.

I'm not sure if the best thing is to just avoid games that make you sick or whether you should try and acclimatise yourself to them, I mostly avoid them because if a game makes me sick inevitably it then becomes hard to do actual real work that I need to do.

There's definitely more games that affect me these days and I'm not sure if it's my brain telling me I need to stop playing video games or whether the games themselves are being made in ways that fucks with my brain too much.

It's the monitors that are different. They're bigger and wider, yet FOVs are often set too low for them. Seems like whoever's in charge of setting default FOV in a game all too often makes the assumption that everyone has a 5:4 monitor. Use WSGF to find out how to set FOV wider for the games you play and that should solve most motion sickness issues.

FOV is only one part of it for me. I pretty much always check whether its possible to widen the FOV and often it's not.

Beyond that some games have head bobbing or swaying which is also nauseating at times.

I find fps games with to low of a fov cause this. Op if you can increase the fov, i get this in tf2, but only since i upgraded my eyefinity. Before it was fine but when i went from 3x1680x1020 monitors to 3 1920x1080 monitors that the games fov couldn't go high enough to make the game look proper. I got horrible motion sickness 5 min in. First time I've ever gotten sick from a game. Also the only game that can't give me a proper fov in those screen res.

Lowering tf2 res to 4800x1200 solved the issue. The screen is fine now and no problems playing for 2 hours straight

I used to get this and a friend of mine told me if you move around in your chair while you play it'll keep it away. Works for me. I just readjust the way I'm sitting every 10 mins or so.

ArmA2:OA was the first game I've played thats made me feel sick. Turning down PostProcessing to remove the blurry/foggy/hazy-drunk like effect from the screen helped out tremendously. The motion-blur also gives me instant headaches.

I feel your pain when it comes to ArmA2.

Turning down head bob and post processing should help you out in Arma. Additionally try using the 3rd persona camera. I've grown to like the post processing -- it really smooths out the rough edges in the graphics engine and adds a lot of cool lighting effects, but the motion blur is overdone. I also really like head tracking in Arma 2 - it's hard to play without it once you get used to it.

Mirror's Edge on PS3 on a 21.5 inch monitor made me wanna hurl...

I have it too and I noticed if I don't blink often enough it gets real bad. Even to the point my stomach is hurting.

Not sure if it's motion sickness, but I get dizzy if I'm playing a game on my laptop and I'm sitting too close.

That's interesting because for me older games were much more likely to cause problems and the problems tended to be worse. Goldeneye was the worst, I couldn't watch someone play that game for 10 seconds without starting to feel nauseous. Wolfenstein was almost as bad and in a way worse since I couldn't drag myself away from it until I was extremely nauseous and as soon as I started to feel a little better I would start playing again, I tried the browser version someone posted around here recently and history repeated itself(on both counts).:D Head bob and poor framerates seem to cause it some but the worst offenders seem to have something else going on.

I'll get vertigo if I'm looking down from a high vantage point in a game. Then if I have a character that jumps off, I feel my stomach and "parts" constrict.

But when I jump in a cockpit of a combat/simulator type game, I'm fine.

I guess that what I should call it. Was wondering if anyone here has gotten this from playing a pc game or game in general? I have been gaming since a little kid on a atari and have never gotten a sick feeling from playing a game until today.

A buddy that I play MW3 with invited me to try out arma 2 with him and a friend. I installed the free version and tried it out. That game made me sick as hell. I got a really bad headache, made my eyes hurt and I even threw up. I guess that would be motion sickness right?

Was just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this or not. I played the game for about 25 minutes yesterday at 5pm and felt like shit all night long.

Go down to your local CVS/Walgreens and get the sea sickness armbands.

Something like this - http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/s...78&productId=109278&navAction=jump&navCount=3

They're cheap and definitely worth giving a shot.

My GF gets sick when playing some games and these help a lot.
